As an Analyst-GIS within our Criminal Intelligence Analysis Department, you will be responsible for analyzing, administering, managing, and maintaining corporate mapping programs, including street updates and address verification systems, for CAD, Mobile Data Unit, Crime Analysis and Internet Mapping systems for Peel Regional Police.
What will your typical day look like?
- Administers and manages street address data, police layering information and other geographic data to ensure that spatial information contained in the geographic databases are current, accurate and complete, to support corporate mapping systems, e.g. CAD, MDU, RMS, Crime Analysis and Internet.
- Analyzes and evaluates street address databases received from external vendors to ensure completeness in coverage and scope, spatial accuracy and precision of data, accuracy of information contained, spatial integrity and applicability for the organization. Submits error logs to the external vendors for corrections.
- Administers internet mapping capacity as well as develops in-house/customized mapping programs or routines that will expand the operational use and benefits of mapping systems throughout the organization and the community of the Region of Peel. Produces analytical maps to support board reports or strategic plans as well as corporate maps for distribution throughout the entire organization.
- Co-ordinates with all stakeholders of mapping services in Peel Regional Police to guide the needs assessment process, develops and implements mapping standards, and ensures that a standardized and uniform strategic direction is pursued to support corporate mapping. Liaises with the City of Brampton, City of Mississauga and the Region of Peel to obtain current information on land-use changes, re-zoning, new sub-divisions and street addressing in the Region of Peel.
- Provides technical assistance and training regarding the use of GIS tools.
- Produces analytical maps to support board reports and/or strategic plans.
- Performs additional duties as assigned.

You are someone with:
- University Degree in Geographic Information Systems or equivalent, plus additional courses/training in mapping applications and programming, geo-database management, spatial analysis techniques and research methodology, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- A minimum of five years of related experience required
- Experience in law enforcement preferred
- Demonstrated advanced knowledge of computer programming
- Demonstrated knowledge of application skills in mapping systems (e.g. Arc GIS)
- Demonstrated knowledge of SQL-compliant database
- Demonstrated analytical, research and problem-solving skills
- Effective oral communications and interpersonal skills
- Demonstrated report writing skills
- Demonstrated presentation skills
- Demonstrated project management skills
- Detail oriented
What we offer
The salary range for this Temporary, full-time position is $71,653.00 - $120,727.00**.** Peel Regional Police offers a highly competitive compensation package; applicants will be considered for the top end of the range ($98,996.00 - $120,727.00) based on experience. The salary is complemented with a a comprehensive benefit program, including employer-paid Health/Dental and Life Insurance is offered semi-annually and OMERS Pension Plan effective upon date of hire.
