The Role:
The Manufacturing Coordinator reports to the VP of Operations. The focus of the incumbent is to meet project timelines through effective job releases & to strive for the lowest cost of manufacturing, consistent with quality and delivery. They provide support to the Plant Supervisor, Production Manager, and Purchasing Department to ensure the timely creation and release of job travelers and estimates.
The main challenge of this position is to become thoroughly familiar with the design, production methods, and customer specifications to determine what manufacturing procedures will be required to meet these needs. The incumbent must work with mechanical shops and technical personnel in developing detailed work instructions, process flow and time standards for manufacturing equipment.
Responsibilities

Issue, develop, maintain, and revise job travelers through the review of engineering drawings and required manufacturing methods. Includes creation of Bills of Material (BOM) and Method of Manufacturing (MOM) in Epicor MRP Engineering Workbench.

Become thoroughly familiar with KCD parts, design, design specifications, vendor capabilities and customer’s specifications to best determine processes and procedures. Recommend changes of design to the Engineering department to achieve cost reductions and operational efficiencies.

Collaborate with Inventory Analyst and Production Scheduler in developing timelines for production and purchasing due dates as set in the job traveler to ensure customer deadlines.

Ensure Sales Order, Job, and Inventory material requirements are immediately issued to generate demand for purchasing and production departments.

Assist purchasing in identifying potential vendors for subcontracting work and specialized materials. Includes negotiating pricing on labour and materials.

Collaborate with our unionized employees to develop and update detailed work instructions as well as establish standard target hours for various production processes. Ensure work instructions are clear, concise, and easily understood by all team members.

Responsible for generation of cost estimates for both labor and material. Includes: Creating “As Sold” (sales estimate) and “As Built” (actual cost data) spread sheets to report variance analysis. Includes: Cost estimates of repair work and subcontracted work and quoting support for purchasing team.

Through effective written and oral communication, ensure that major problems, both current and potential, are brought to management’s attention, with appropriate suggestions for corrective action, immediately as situation arises.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 2 years experience in a Manufacturing focused role
- Education in Operations Management, Mechanical Engineering or Operations/Supply Chain/Inventory/Job Estimating fields
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Must possess strong computer skills, with expertise in Excel and MS Office suite
- Ability to create clear and concise documentation and Standard Operating Procedures
- Demonstrated ability to multi-task and prioritize to meet the demands of a fast-paced operations/manufacturing environment
- Ideal candidate will possess strong technical acumen, a hands-on approach and an interest in how things work
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with Epicor or similar MRP systems
- Technical training or experience in welding, machining, and large-scale machine assembly
- Experience working effectively with unionized staff
- Experience in project management and taking on leadership roles in projects
- Proven experience in continuous improvement and process optimization
- Certifications in Lean Manufacturing, 5S, Six Sigma, and Safety standards a strong asset
