The Security Intelligence Unit (SIU), within the Policing and Community Safety Services division of the Ministry of Community Safety, is currently seeking highly motivated, enthusiastic, and self-directed individuals with professional knowledge and experience within the Criminal Justice System to join our team as a Security Intelligence Officer (SIO). Reporting to the Security Intelligence Unit Manager, you will be an integral member of a truly innovative provincial team specializing in the justice system's response to street gangs, criminal organizations and prolific violent offenders.
As an SIO, you will play a vital role in gathering information, conducting investigations and producing intelligence to enhance offender, staff, institutional and public safety. Your work will contribute to the detection and prevention of violence, criminal activity and drug-related incidents within our correctional centers and Saskatchewan communities.
Responsibilities:
- Investigate and gather intelligence on violence, drug-related incidents and criminal activities involving organized crime, street gangs and/or prolific violent offenders;
- Monitor incidents, interview individuals and review electronic files to extract relevant information;
- Assess, organize and generate intelligence;
- Handle sensitive information with confidentiality and discretion;
- Communicate complex information effectively to diverse audiences;
- Develop expertise in street gangs and/or prolific violent offenders and provide training as needed;
- Generate crime reduction/prevention intelligence and support planning and resource allocation;
- Foster collaboration with stakeholders such as law enforcement agencies and government ministries;
- Respond promptly to critical issues, manage information sources and devise innovative approaches for intelligence gathering;
- Provide expert advice for strategic initiatives related to criminal and gang-related activities;
- Recommend security measures and conduct risk assessments to ensure safety and security;
- Maintain accurate gang affiliation and/or prolific violent offender information;
- Ensure proper chain of custody of evidence and guide others in evidence seizure;
- Stay updated on trends in criminal, gang and prolific violent activity through professional development and collaboration; and,
- You will provide leadership though training and make formal presentations at meetings on criminal activities/trends related to serious and organized crime.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g., Criminal Justice, Intelligence Studies) and/or equivalent experience and/or demonstrated knowledge/experience in policing and/or correctional environments;
- Training and experience in criminal investigations, source recruitment/management, forensic interviewing, drug investigations and the generation and use of criminal intelligence;
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Discretion and confidentiality in handling sensitive information;
- Familiarity with relevant legislation and privacy acts;
- Interpersonal skills to build relationships with stakeholders;
- Knowledge of security measures, risk assessments and crisis management;
- Demonstrated capacity to work with often-adversarial persons to investigate and mitigate threats;
- Understanding of criminal and gang-related activities;
- Adaptability in a dynamic and sensitive environment; and
- Commitment to continuous professional development.
This position works with highly confidential information and within restricted-access work sites. You may be required to undergo an enhanced security screening process and obtain and maintain a security clearance as a condition of employment.
