Senior Environmental Scientist - Contaminated Sites / Remediation (Remote, Canada)

Remote across Canada | Full-time, Permanent

The Opportunity

  • We are seeking a Senior Environmental Scientist (Project Director) specializing in Contaminated Sites and Remediation.
  • This role is ideal for a professional with extensive experience in reclamation or closure planning for mining, oil & gas, nuclear, hydroelectric, or other resource development sectors.
  • You'll join a collaborative team dedicated to supporting Indigenous sovereignty, protecting the environment, and creating lasting positive change.

What You'll Do

  • Lead and manage projects focused on technical peer reviews of regulatory permitting and approvals for major infrastructure projects (pipelines, mining, waste, energy, etc.).
  • Assess contaminated sites, interpret chemical and hydrogeological data, and develop remediation and closure strategies.
  • Conduct and oversee sampling programs for soil, groundwater, sediment, and vapour.
  • Provide strategic advice on Duty to Consult, environmental risk, mitigation, and compensation measures.
  • Prepare and review technical reports, risk assessments, and remedial action plans.
  • Engage directly with Indigenous communities, regulators, and industry proponents to ensure environmental and cultural values are reflected.
  • Support business development and contribute to organizational diversity and inclusion initiatives.

What You Bring

  • Degree in Environmental Science, Earth Sciences, Chemistry, or Natural Resource Management (or equivalent).
  • 10+ years of professional experience in contaminated sites, reclamation, or closure planning.
  • Strong understanding of Canadian environmental legislation (federal, provincial, territorial).
  • Experience conducting and reviewing Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs).
  • Excellent technical writing, analysis, and communication skills.
  • Proven ability to manage complex projects, budgets, and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Experience working in cross-cultural settings, ideally with First Nation, Métis, and/or Inuit communities.
  • Willingness to travel across Canada, including to northern and remote communities.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with Indigenous community projects, especially in northern Canada.
  • Knowledge of ecotoxicology, bioaccumulation, or climate change adaptation.
  • Experience training in environmental monitoring or impact assessment.
  • Proficiency in GIS, modeling, or data visualization tools.
  • Multilingual skills (e.g., French, Cree, Ojibway, Oji-Cree, Dene, Innu).
