What you will do

This position requires mechanically inclined individuals to comply with the plastic extrusion production plan, assuring a good quality product during all steps of the process, including material handling, raw material, formulation, quality checks and extrusion process. The Extrusion Operator will also be responsible for preventative maintenance and troubleshooting on the equipment.

  • Operate and oversee multiple extrusion lines, including start-ups, shutdowns, die changes, and necessary adjustments to ensure smooth and efficient production. 

  • Conduct daily production operations on plastic extrusion lines, ensuring smooth workflow and adherence to production schedules.

  • Perform job changeovers on extrusion lines. Set up and oversee downstream equipment efficiently to maintain operational continuity.

  • Troubleshoot and optimize the plastic extrusion lines to sustain production efficiency and target output rates.

  • Configure and adjust machine controls and parameters as required to achieve precise setup and operational performance.

  • Maintain a clean, organized work area and ensure proper storage of tools and equipment.

  • Inspect manufactured parts and identify visual defects, troubleshooting machine parameters to improve quality.

  • Maintain organization and proper storage of all tools and equipment associated with the production process.

  • Ensure product quality by adhering to established standards and conducting necessary inspections.

  • Monitor and sustains production efficiencies and target output rates.

  • Conduct routine machine maintenance and implements process improvements to minimize material waste and reduce scrap.

  • Demonstrate flexibility to work across all shifts (day, afternoon, and night) on a rotating schedule as required.

  • Uphold high standards of housekeeping and cleanliness within the extrusion line and surrounding work areas including removing purge, cleaning, sweeping, dusting, whipping down machines and vacuuming

  • Collaborate with Supervisors, Lead Hands, and other departments to ensure seamless workflow and issue resolution.

The right candidate will have/be

Education: Post-Secondary education or equivalent.

  • Ability to read, write, understand and communicate effectively in English.        
  • Capable of lifting up to 50lbs.
  • Able to work with minimal supervision.
  • Capable of standing for the duration of the shift.
  • Understanding basic mathematics calculations. 
  • Must be able to work on weekends when required. 
  • Mechanical aptitude is an asset.
  • Understanding plastic formulations is an asset. 
  • Valid forklift license is preferred but not required.
