Your Opportunity:
The Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of comprehensive patient and family centered care on an acute surgical unit in accordance with the UAH and AHS policy and procedures. The 3D3 Plastic and General Surgery unit is responsible for providing staffing to 9 18+ bed units consisting of Plastic/Reconstructive and General Surgery patients. We strive to provide quality care to patients received from the operating room, emergency department, intensive care unit and directly from home and/or surgery clinics in addition to caring for patients received from other departments within the hospital from time to time. Decisions are made in a collaborative multidisciplinary team environment. The RN is expected to participate in quality improvement initiatives; supporting and maintaining high quality patient care strategies within the surgery program.

As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS. PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit holders will be paid $40.76 to $55.79 per hour. Upon obtaining a full practice permit, the rate of pay will be adjusted to the applicable Registered Nurse rate in accordance with UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii), as applicable.

Required Qualifications:
Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP) certification. If you have not practiced as a Registered Nurse within the last five (5) years, you must complete the following free courses: CRNA Medication Management (Chapters 1-4), available at https://connect.nurses.ab.ca/home/learning-and-development/learning-modules/ and the NextGenU Health Assessment Resources Certification, available at https://courses.nextgenu.org/course/view.php?id=271.
Additional Required Qualifications:
Must have a minimum of 1 year of Plastics, Acute Care and General Surgery and Connect Care experience required; fully Charge-trained, must be flexible and adaptable to work in a fast paced and changing environment; must not have any restrictions to walk, push, pull, transfer, bend, and carry; N95 fit tested; MLL modules must be up to date or in progress; Connect Care trained; must be able to work to full scope of practice and have all required clinical competencies up to date. Successful applicant will be held accountable to their professional practice. Ability to lift 25-50 pounds, must not have current activity restrictions, such as pulling, pushing, reaching and bending. Note: Rotation subject to change.
Preferred Qualifications:
Current IV therapy, Pre-op/Post-op care protocols, Central line/PICC care, Ostomy care, basic surgical wound/drain care, complex wound care and negative pressure wounds (VAC dressing), NG tube insertion and management. Strong patient teaching skills.
