About the role
BCIT’s School of Health Sciences is seeking a temporary, part-time (0.4 FTE**) Instructor** in the Biotechnology program to teach 1 course in the Biotechnology Program (BIOT 6201, Microbiology 3). This position requires that the candidate have a passion for post secondary education as well as recent knowledge and technical expertise in immunology and/or virology. They must be able to work with students hands-on in the laboratory to perform experiments involving CRISPR gene editing in mammalian cells, qRT-PCR, ELISA and flow cytometry of primary immune cells.
Duties & Responsibilities
RESPONSIBILITIES**:**
The course the successful candidate will be delivering is composed of a 3-hour lecture component and a 3-4 hour laboratory component each week. The successful candidate must be able to:

Develop and deliver innovative lectures, assignments and assessments.

Develop and deliver current and innovative laboratory exercises.
-
Work with Biotechnology faculty to coordinate lab components between 2 courses to enhance student experiential learning.

Liaise with students when necessary.
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS**:**
-
MSc degree in a related field, with a PhD preferable.
-
Theoretical and technical knowledge of immunology and/or virology, with additional knowledge of cell biology and molecular biology desirable.
-
Teaching experience in immunology and/or virology is preferred.
-
Technical expertise in mammalian and primary immune cell culture, mammalian cell transfection and flow cytometry of primary immune cells.

Technical experience with qRT-PCR and ELISA is desirable.

Good understanding of the biotechnology industry, with recent experience in the industry preferred.

Excellent oral and written communication skills in the English language.
-
Strong organizational and time-management skills.

Salary Range
Salary Range: $65,045 - $113,545 per annum.
Additional Salary Information
