Museum Collections Lead Part-time Permanent J0326-0700

The Town of New Tecumseth is looking for a part-time permanent Museum Collections Lead to join our Parks, Recreation and Culture team.

Hours of work:

  • Wednesday – Saturday 9:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. (approximately 22 hours per week)

Under the direction of and in co-operation with the Supervisor, Culture, the Museum Program Lead provides efficient and effective support services for all aspects of Museum Services, including but not limited to, planning and co-ordination of programs and events, public relations, marketing, performing general clerical work and ‘front of house’ museum work.

How you contribute to our organization:

  • Assist with ensuring archival items within the collection are catalogued, digitized, and housed according to standard museum practices.
  • Maintain and update the Past Perfect museum software with data entry of catalogue records, digitized archival items, past donor files, digital photographs and key search terms.
  • Research individual items in order to update existing records or create new ones.
  • Organize, photograph, and catalogue additions to the collection on an ongoing basis.
  • To notify the Supervisor, Culture of problems and/or recommendations regarding the collection, collections management system and conservation material which may affect the ongoing operation of the museum.
  • Assists with supervision of volunteers for collection related tasks.
  • To create a proper filing system for paper copies of old artifact and donor files.
  • Perform other museum related duties as required.
  • Assists with the supervision of volunteers and summer staff related to collections management.
  • Answers calls providing general information to internal and external public contacts.
  • Deals with complaints and problems of a minor nature with the public. Records and ensures that more complicated complaints and problems are forwarded to the appropriate person for resolution.
  • Ensures Supervisor, Culture is apprised of any problems with respect to building maintenance.
  • Performs general clerical work. Researches material for special projects when required by the Supervisor, Culture.
  • Responds to routine correspondence in a professional and timely manner.

What you bring to the team:

  • College Certificate/Diploma in museum studies, history, or a related field is required.

  • Experience in working or volunteering in a museum or archives setting if preferred.

  • Experience working with the Past Perfect collections management software is preferred.

  • Previous experience or training in collections care or collections management

  • Familiar with museum nomenclature to describe collection artifacts

  • Knowledge of current museum practices and techniques of collections management including industry standard cataloguing and records management methods

  • Experience handling archival documents and artifacts

  • Experience in a computerized setting: working knowledge of Microsoft Office software

  • Working knowledge of scanners, printers, DSLR cameras and photo software is an asset.

  • Have strong research skills and the ability to learn and retain information

Salary:$29.91 – 35.19 per hour, plus 4% vacation pay and optional enrolment in OMERS pension plan
**Hours:**5.5 hours per day – Wednesday through Saturday 9:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.
**Location:**Museum on the Boyne, 250 Fletcher Crescent, Alliston ON L9R 1M1
**Start Date:**April 13, 2026
