Forbes Bros Ltd. is seeking two Project Managers (full-time, permanent) to support projects across Ontario. These positions are ideally based in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) and will operate in a hybrid capacity.
The successful candidates will be responsible for managing utility construction projects from initiation through to completion, ensuring safety, quality, schedule, and budget expectations are met. These roles will support both civil/electrical construction and overhead distribution line projects, working closely with field crews, clients, and internal stakeholders in a fast-paced environment.

POSITION SUMMARY
The Project Manager owns the management for one or more construction projects, or programs, with responsibility for ensuring compliance with Client requirements, ensuring that Company internal requirements for safety, quality, schedule, and cost are met for each assigned project, and manages of team of direct reports to fulfill these accountabilities.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
The responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to:
SAFETY
- Demonstrates a sense of Safety focus through integration into all management processes.
- Supports Safety professionals as required at the project site.
- Stops work that is potentially damaging or harmful to people, property, or the environment. Seeks assistance in making necessary corrections.
- Highly active in Tailboard Meetings.
- Participates in HSE inspections and audits.
- Oversee any safety corrective actions to completion and full integration into project.
TECHNICAL AND QUALITY
- Obtains technical guidance required to support Project technical issues. Provides guidance to field teams as required.
- Oversees Requests for Information and similar documents to obtain response to technical questions from Client and/or Engineer.
- Provides guidance and approvals of submittals required for approval of technical issues, vendor documents, and material information.
- Ensures Project quality requirements are incorporated into field installation requirements.
- Tracks and collects quality documents and records of correction of field quality issues. Ensures distribution of field quality procedures.
SCHEDULE
- Manages Project Schedule development, updates and submissions.
- Works with construction leaders to prepare recovery schedule if required.
COST CONTROL
- Prepares budgets based on Project estimate and inputs into Company ERM software system.
- Ensure comprehensive project process is integrated to track, and analyzes costs for assigned Projects.
- Prepares cost forecast for assigned Projects, develops plans for improving cost performance, and works with construction supervision to implement changes.
- Supports Estimating during estimate preparation to provide input related to construction methods and cost. May provide other supporting documents to support estimate such as schedule and execution narratives.
- Prepares and submits necessary Change Order information to Client. Negotiates less complex Change Orders based on Company guidance.
CONTRACT
- Reads, reviews, and understands Client Contract content and requirements with support from others as required. Able to inform others of Contract requirements.
- Communicates with Client concerning changes in Contract scope or terms with goal to obtain appropriate Contract Change Order.
- Prepares and submits reports, technical information and other documents as required by Contract. Responds to Client comments and questions.
- Acts as Company representative to Client within limits of authority.
- Predict and communicate issues of project contractual risk to supervisor.
MATERIALS AND SUBCONTRACTS
- Ensures selection of qualified material suppliers. Completes material purchase requisitions and ensures issue of applicable purchase orders in accordance with Company policy.
- Ensure completion of subcontractor pre-qualifications. Completes subcontract package preparation and issues package for bidding. Ensures issue of subcontract in accordance with Company policy.
- Negotiates with suppliers and subcontractors for the benefit of the Company and Project within limits of authority.
- Tracks and expedites supplier technical submittals and delivery.
- Tracks, expedites, and ensures review and approval of all subcontractor submittals according to subcontract requirements.
- Reviews supplier and subcontractor requests for change order for accuracy and compliance with terms of the agreement. Rejects or provides/obtains approval after review and implementation of any corrections.
GENERAL MANAGEMENT AND REPORTING
- Publishes required Project reports which may include daily, weekly, and monthly progress reports.
- Schedules and host regular Project review meetings including Project Kickoff and Closeout Meetings. Publishes meeting minutes for applicable meetings.
- Prepares and publishes other reports as required.
- Supports development of and ensures implementation of Project plans for HSE, Quality, overall execution, cost management, change management and other areas. Recommends plan modifications to support better execution and compliance with Project requirements.
- Tracks and manages overall changes in the Project. Acts to prevent potentially negative HSE, quality, cost, schedule, etc. impacts to Company and Project. Reports changes to Company or other Departments as required.
- Tracks defined Project risk conditions. Tracks cost and other impacts associated with defined Project risks. Seeks ways to mitigate risks to prevent negative impacts to the Company and Project.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Preferred education to include a bachelor level degree (B.S.) in Construction Management, an Engineering discipline related to the Company's work, or similar technical degree such as a CET. Combination of experience and education will be considered.
- At least 5 Years leading construction projects preferably in a field involving linear construction such as electrical distribution construction.
- Experience managing construction projects with contract values of at least $5 million.
- Capable of providing direction to administrative support staff of up to 5.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects/activities in a dynamic fast-paced environment.
- Understanding of sub-scopes and sub-trades.
- Excellent time-management and organizational skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
- Highly effective at building and managing client/vendors relationships
- Flexible, willing to work long hours if required.
- Communicates effectively (written and oral) all levels of management, and industry contacts.
- A self-motivated individual that requires minimum supervision and with goal and team-oriented attitude.
- Ability to coach and mentor.
- Ability to travel as needed.
