The Engineering, Parks and Environment department is looking for individuals to work as Site Hosts at City public spaces such as the Shipyard and Waterfront and Civic Plaza on an auxiliary basis.
Responsibilities In this position you will act as an ambassador of the City of North Vancouver greeting the public in a friendly and professional manner, answering inquiries, responding to complaints, directing people to appropriate information/resources and ensuring the safety and enjoyment of participants.
During the operation of the Skate Plaza, you will provide on-ice assistance and a safe and fun atmosphere for guests using the rink ensuring all skaters follow the rules, the safety of the rink and accesses is maintained and will open and close sections of the rink as required. You will also provide customer service for skate rentals, perform payment transactions and ensure proper handling of payment records. During the operation of the Splash Park, you will provide on-site assistance, ensure the safety of all guests and ensure the observance of regulations of conduct. You will also be responsible for hosting duties at other City public spaces such as the Civic Plaza. You will assist with communications including creating and updating bulletins, flyers and notices to distribute to visitors both in print and on-line. You will be a point of contact for emergency situations that arise in the space and will take action to arrange for emergency services as required. Performs related duties as required.
Requirements You will have strong customer service and communication skills, as well as, cash handling experience. You will have the ability to work independently, exercise judgment, deal courteously with the public and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of stakeholders. Completion of Grade 11 is required. Emergency First Aid is also a requirement however, the City of North Vancouver will provide successful candidates with the necessary training if applicable. Experience with skate rentals and knowledge of related equipment would be considered an asset along with the ability to skate.
Compensation $21.59 per hour + 12% in lieu of benefits
(Pay grade 7 – January 2024 rates)
The City of North Vancouver is a certified Living Wage employer; the 2024 living wage is $27.05 (12% in lieu of benefits included) per hour. Hours of Work
Auxiliary: Hours of work may vary. Shifts will be available seven (7) days a week and will generally be between the hours of 9:00am and 10:00pm.
