What You’ll Do
As a Carpentry Lead Hand at Ackard, you are the critical link between site and management. You’ll lead by example—working hands-on alongside your crew and sub-trades—while ensuring projects run smoothly, safely, and to the highest standard of quality. You will be responsible for coordinating field activities, supporting your team, and delivering results that exceed client expectations.
Your responsibilities will include:

Acting as the primary link between the Project Manager, Site Supervisor, and field team; communicating direction, progress, and challenges.

Leading and supporting the field team on site, ensuring quality workmanship and adherence to building codes and project specifications.

Coordinating daily site activities, including scheduling tasks, managing manpower, and ensuring work stays on track.

Identifying and resolving day-to-day issues on site to maintain productivity and momentum.
-
Working collaboratively with sub-trades to ensure efficient and well-coordinated project execution.

Performing high-level carpentry work, including framing, finishing, installations, and structural work.
-
Reading and interpreting blueprints, drawings, and specifications to guide layout and construction.

Managing tools, equipment, and site resources to ensure efficiency and readiness.
-
Performing demolition, site preparation, and layout work as required.

Promoting and enforcing safety standards, including conducting daily hazard assessments and participating in toolbox meetings.

Maintaining a clean, organized, and safe jobsite at all times.
-
Providing mentorship and direction to team members, supporting skill development and performance.
-
Taking ownership of project outcomes and contributing to continuous improvement on site.

Supporting additional duties and responsibilities as the role continues to grow.

Proven experience in residential carpentry, particularly in renovation projects.

Strong leadership skills with the ability to guide, motivate, and hold a team accountable.

High-level carpentry skills across multiple phases of construction.

Ability to read, interpret, and work from blueprints, drawings, and specifications.

Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to make sound decisions on site.

Excellent communication skills with the ability to work effectively with team members, sub-trades, and clients.

Professional, respectful, and solution-focused in all interactions.

Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.

Comfortable taking initiative and ownership of work and outcomes.

Interest and aptitude in using digital tools and construction technology.

Highly motivated with a strong work ethic and a commitment to quality craftsmanship.

Valid Class 5 driver’s license.
Working Conditions
This position involves hands-on work in both interior and exterior residential construction environments. As a Lead Hand, you are expected to actively work on site while also overseeing crew activities, coordinating work, and maintaining productivity in a fast-paced environment.

Work takes place on residential renovation and custom home build sites.

Frequent and routine work at heights, including ladders, scaffolding, roofs, and elevated platforms.
-
Exposure to all weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, and snow.
-
Regular lifting of materials up to 50 lbs; occasional assisted lifts up to 75 lbs.
-
Physically demanding work, including standing, walking, climbing, kneeling, crouching, and continuous use of tools and equipment.

Work may be performed in confined, elevated, dusty, or noisy environments.
-
Regular use of power tools, hand tools, ladders, scaffolding, and other construction equipment is required.

Must consistently wear and enforce the use of appropriate PPE (hard hat, safety boots, eye and ear protection).

Responsible for maintaining a safe, clean, and organized job site while work is actively in progress.

Frequent coordination with team members, sub-trades, and supervisors in a dynamic, fast-paced environment with shifting priorities.

Standard schedule is Monday to Friday, daytime hours; occasional overtime may be required to meet project timelines.

No out-of-town overnight travel is required.

What You’ll Do
