This is recreation leadership work in the area of assignment assisting in the development and execution and evaluation of recreation services and programs. Duties are performed in collaboration with a supervisor within established guidelines, practice and policies. Independent judgement is exercised on individual aspects of the program. Supervision including guidance and mentoring of staff is required. Work performance is monitored and reviewed by a supervisor in terms of the effectiveness of services rendered.
Some of the key responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to:
- Assists in planning, developing, organizing, implementing and administering the operation and promotion of programs and services
- Supervises, guides and mentors the work of subordinates
- Assists a supervisor in liaising with community groups and associations
- Drafts promotional material for review and approval by a supervisor
- Prepares and maintains equipment and supply inventory records in accordance with established policies and procedures
- Provides leadership and instruction for various programs and activities
- Assists with training and orientation of staff and volunteers
- Assists with staff scheduling and shift coverage. Reviews timecards for accuracy
- Performs other related duties as required
The successful candidate for this position will have:
- Completion of four (4) post-secondary courses in Community Recreation or a related discipline
- Pool Operator Level I
- Six (6) months supervisory experience or a post-secondary course in leadership and/or supervision
- One (1) year full-time equivalent experience in the area of assignment
- Occupational First Aid Level 1
- National Lifeguard Certification - Pool
- Swim for Life Instructor (SI)
- Swim for Life Instructor Trainer (SIT)
- CPR & First Aid Instructor
- Valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License
