**Job Summary:**Ontario Tech University is seeking a Psychotherapist to provide mental health and addictions and trauma-informed psychotherapy to Ontario Tech University and Durham College students. The candidate must be available to work up to 14 hours from May to August and up to 21 hours from September to April, in person, three days per week. This position will report to the Manager, Student Mental Health Services.

Responsibilities/accountabilities:

  • Collaborates with the multidisciplinary teams including; Ontario Tech and Durham College’s mental health professionals, faculty and staff across both the University and College, to provide guidance and support in responding to student mental health concerns
  • Clinical duties include intake, assessment, intervention, evaluation, safety planning, crisis intervention and response, referrals to resources, and short-term psychotherapy
  • The incumbent will work and carry out duties in a manner congruent with University and College policies, procedures and overarching principles while maintaining professional and ethical standards
  • Day-to-day operations including scheduling appointments, maintaining accurate medical records, joining team meetings, and collaborating with other campus departments to provide comprehensive support to students
  • Expected to meet with up to five students in person per day, accommodating same-day appointments and providing follow-up as necessary

Required Qualifications:

  • Completion of a Master’s degree in psychology, social work, mental health and addictions, or counselling, or other applicable social sciences is required
  • Member in good standing with respective regulatory body (Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers, College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO), College of Psychologists of Ontario); or other regulatory bodies governing psychotherapy in Ontario
  • Training and/or experience in risk and threat assessment, non-violent crisis intervention, suicide intervention, trauma focused therapies, and mental health intervention required
  • Compassionate and experienced trauma informed; committed to supporting a diverse client base, including BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Colour) and 2SLGBTQ+ students
  • Utilize evidence-based techniques to help students identify and achieve their goals in a brief and focused manner

Required Education:

  • Completion of a Master’s degree in psychology, social work, mental health and addictions, or counselling, or other applicable social sciences is required
  • An equivalent combination of education and related experience may be considered
  • Verification of Academic credentials may be required

Required Experience:

  • Minimum five years of mental health related experience, working in a post-secondary setting preferred; or experience in a tertiary mental health facility, providing clinical care for complex mental health issues
  • Experience in providing trauma-informed therapy to clients utilizing an inclusive lens and ability to support a diverse client base, including BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Colour) and 2SLGBTQ+ students
  • Experience working with individuals of various age groups, addressing a wide range of difficulties and personal issues resulting from mental health and/or addictions and trauma
  • Experience/training in single session modality
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to maintain confidential information within PHIPA and professional standards
  • Demonstrated ability to relate to students, staff and faculty in ways that build confidence and trust
