About the role
Your Opportunity:
Reporting to the Associate Manager of the Ambulatory Blood and Marrow Transplant (BMT) Department at the state-of-the-art Arthur J.E. Child Comprehensive Cancer Centre in Calgary, Alberta, the Registered Nurse (RN) collaborates with the interdisciplinary BMT team and program stakeholders to provide safe, ethical, evidence-based and patient-centred care to adults referred to the southern Alberta Blood and Marrow Transplant Program (ABMTP). Utilizing highly specialized cellular therapy knowledge, technical expertise, interpersonal skills, and sound clinical judgment, the RN applies the nursing process in the delivery of care for complex patient populations including allogeneic transplant recipients and donors, autologous transplant recipients, and CAR-T therapy recipients. In accordance with Health Canada tissue donation regulations and ABMTP policies, procedures, and guidelines, the RN is responsible for coordinating care for transplant recipients and donors from referral through admission for transplant; providing education to patients and families regarding cellular therapies, transplantation, bone marrow or peripheral blood stem cell collection, anticipated treatment side effects, symptom management, and rehabilitation; providing emotional support and advocating for patients and families throughout the pre-transplant process; facilitating referrals to program stakeholders and community resources; coordinating HLA typing and reviewing international donor searches for potential allogeneic transplant recipients; collaborating with the Clinical Research team to support patients receiving cellular therapy through research protocols; and performing other duties as assigned. As the post-transplant components of the BMT Clinics are closely integrated with pre-transplant care, there may be a requirement to reassign duties between the two services.

In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS. PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit holders will be paid $40.76 to $55.79 per hour. Upon obtaining a full practice permit, the rate of pay will be adjusted to the applicable Registered Nurse rate in accordance with UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii), as applicable.

Required Qualifications:
Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP) certification. If you have not practiced as a Registered Nurse within the last five (5) years, you must complete the following free courses: CRNA Medication Management (Chapters 1-4), available at https://connect.nurses.ab.ca/home/learning-and-development/learning-modules/ and the NextGenU Health Assessment Resources Certification, available at https://courses.nextgenu.org/course/view.php?id=271.
Additional Required Qualifications:
Baccalaureate in Nursing required. Minimum 2 years' experience in an adult oncology or transplant setting. Clinical expertise in patient care coordination within an accredited transplant program. Able to navigate complex case management with the coordination of multiple aspects of a patient’s care journey for numerous patients at one time. Exhibit excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to effectively maintain collaborative working relationships with members of the multidisciplinary team. Clear demonstration of autonomy and skills in extensive learning through multiple modalities including self-drive, educator and peer supported approaches. Be self-directed and exercise independent decision making, sound nursing judgment and critical thinking skills. Strong time management and prioritization skills, with a demonstrated ability to function effectively within a dynamic environment. Exhibit leadership skills, including demonstrated ability and comfort with decision making responsibilities, coaching/teaching, and the ability to inspire and build confidence in others. Experience with and ability to manage change and adapt to new workflows. Clear demonstration and commitment to professional growth.
Preferred Qualifications:
Knowledge of and experience in the Alberta Blood and Marrow Transplant Program (ABMTP). Adult, ambulatory BMT Clinic experience preferred. IV and Chemotherapy certifications as asset. Master's degree preferred. Ability to facilitate change management. Leadership, communication, project management, AIW and change management courses or certifications. Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, Outlook, Express and electronic medical records (Connect Care, Alberta NetCare).
