Your Opportunity The Career Services Unit at the Faculty of Information leads work-integrated learning programs, including co-op, practicums, and internships, while supporting faculty in delivering experiential learning courses such as capstones and community engaged learning. We also provide personalized career advising to students and recent graduates, helping them prepare for success in a dynamic job market.

Under the general direction of the Manager, Co-op, Careers, and Work Integrated Learning unit, the incumbent is responsible for overseeing the experiential learning portfolio, including capstones, internships, practicums and courses in the Master of Museum Studies and the Master of Information program as well as various other courses within the faculty that contain experiential learning components requiring community partnership and outreach. This role aims on building and strengthening relationships with our Academic Program Directors, faculty,and various stakeholders and partners that are leading experiential learning courses, and are of strategic importance in the Galleries, Libraries, Archives, and Museums (GLAM) sector and in the not for profit areas. Key responsibilities include developing and implementing targeted outreach initiatives, analyzing potential placement opportunities to determine suitability with student academic learning objectives and advising and coaching students on the selection of appropriate work-integrated learning opportunities.

Your Responsibilities Will Include

  • Building and strengthening relationships with stakeholders and partners of strategic importance in the not-for-profit sector, GLAM and public institutions
  • Implementing plans and process improvements for employer engagement activities
  • Developing and implementing targeted outreach initiatives that support experiential learning courses
  • Analyzing sponsor terms of agreement for compatibility with University policy and local regulatory requirements
  • Analyzing potential placement opportunities to determine suitability with student academic learning objectives
  • Advising and coaching students on the selection of appropriate work-integrated learning opportunities
  • Advising students on job search, industry research and networking strategies including cover letter, resume and interview preparation
  • Fostering cooperative working relationships with a wide variety of internal and external contacts

Essential Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or acceptable combination of equivalent education and experience
  • Minimum five (5) years of related experience developing student placements and work-integrated learning opportunities within the Galleries, Libraries, Archives, and Museums (GLAM) sector in not for profit organizations and public institutions
  • Experience administering Work Integrated Learning (WIL) contractswith community partners and program stakeholders in the GLAM and not for profit sector
  • Strong knowledge of labour market trends in the GLAM sector with a focus on Museums, Libraries and Archival work
  • Track record of success in a target driven environment, generating experiential learning opportunities as per academic program requirements
  • Experience managing effective relationships with a wide variety of stakeholders (including employers, alumni, students, staff and faculty)
  • Experience with the development and delivery of career educational workshops and one-on-one career advising services
  • Commitment to working as a team player, fostering an environment of respect, inclusiveness and innovation
  • Proven abilityto handle a variety of projects, deadlines and schedules simultaneously, and ability to independently prioritize own work flow
  • Excellent organizational, and time management skills to cope with multiple projects and events occurring within short and overlapping time periods
  • Strong written communication skills (e.g. report writing; drafting content for marketing materials), strong public speaking skills, the ability to communicate effectively and empathetically with a diverse student population in order to meet the needs of students
  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office and ability to source information and data using the Internet and social media sites such as LinkedIn
  • Must show evidence of a commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, and the promotion of a respectful and collegial learning and working environment
