As a member of the Hopewell Product Development Team, the Product Development Technologists are responsible to develop or improve the product portfolio of home plans. The Product Development Technologists will work to understand the regional housing market and current market trends founded in market driven data, along with the overall industry construction methods and standards.
Responsibilities:

Design and develop new models concepts or modify existing models to meet specified targets

Design and develop or enhance elevations for new or existing models and/or communities, while navigating architectural control approvals

Produce accurate AutoCAD based stock plans from concept design and facilitate the review process
-
Produce blackline material for marketing purposes
-
Participate in on-site framing/rough-in walkthroughs
-
Lead and direct special projects as required

Ensure the Team (and consultants) adhere to Hopewell drafting and CAD based standards

Assist with the coordination of external consultants on new model development, or elevation development as required
-
Develop or maintain policy and procedure documents specific to Product Development
-
Analyze and provide recommendations for new community (or new phase), lot selection strategy
-
Participate in market shops and analysis as required
-
Foster development of junior drafting team members interested in product development
-
Draft client job files under direction of Drafting Manager if required
-
Creation of preliminary site plans as required
-
Liaise with municipal officials regarding building code and bylaw interpretations or questions
-
May attend or take part in local municipal or provincial technical organizations or meetings
-
Maintain positive relationships within the industry, including trades, suppliers, or consultants
Competencies:
- A minimum of six (6) years of experience in residential drafting and design within the new home building industry
- Possess an Architectural Technologist Designation (or equivalent), from a recognized post-secondary institution
- Proficient in the use of AutoCAD and Microsoft Office tools
- Team player with strong written & verbal communication and a drive for excellence
- Energetic individual who possesses great attention to detail
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
- Understanding of Building code and land use bylaws
- Interpret architectural guidelines for each community
- Work independently on projects to maintain timelines and schedules
