We are hiring a Junior Corporate Accountant for our Calgary head office! You will assist in the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting preparation and be a key member of the team, providing detailed analysis on key business drivers. Working closely with the Manager, Financial Reporting, you will collaborate cross-functionally to improve processes and providing ad-hoc financial analyses to support decision-making.
What you will be doing
- Assist in preparing and delivering the monthly financial reporting package to support timely management reviews
- Manage, maintain, and reconcile all balance sheet accounts with comprehensive variance analysis, ensuring compliance with ASPE
- Maintain and analyze monthly prepaid expense schedules, ensuring accuracy and recording monthly amortization entries
- Prepare and post recurring and non-recurring journal entries with keen attention to detail
- Complete and submit required statistical government surveys accurately and on schedule
- Support the preparation of quarterly and annual financial statements, including detailed note disclosures and Management’s Discussion and Analysis (MD&A) narratives
- Collaborate cross-functionally to gather financial data, streamline month-end closing processes, and recommend improvements to enhance efficiency
- Work closely with external auditors during interim and year-end audits to facilitate a smooth audit process
- Provide ad-hoc financial analyses and reports to various departments and stakeholders to aid decision-making
What we would like from you
- A Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field
- 3 years of hands-on experience in a finance or accounting focussed role
- Proficiency with the MS Office Suite; intermediate Excel skills are required, advanced skills are an asset
- Experience working with Oracle Cloud or other ERP software
- A proficient understanding of ASPE (Accounting Standards for Private Enterprises) would be considered an asset
- Exposure to data visualization tools like Power BI or willingness to learn would be an asset
- Ability to communicate financial concepts clearly in writing and verbally
- Self-driven with the ability to independently manage multiple priorities and deadlines, while maintaining excellent attention to detail
- Committed to maintaining high accuracy standards while continuously enhancing processes and leveraging automation to increase efficiency and reduce errors
- Strong sense of ownership, accountability, and proactive problem-solving
- Critical thinker with strong judgment and decision-making skills, capable of analyzing complex situations and making informed, independent decisions
- Strong communicator who conveys information clearly and transparently, using factual evidence to build trust and foster dialogue
Location and other key details:
- This is a full-time permanent position based out of our Calgary Corporate Office
- The hours of work will be Monday to Friday, 40 hours per week with occasional additional hours as required
