The Opportunity
Reporting directly to the General Manager, the Sales & Dispatch Manager will be responsible for leading business development initiatives while overseeing daily dispatch operations and managing a team of drivers. This is a hands-on leadership role that blends sales, operations, customer relationship management, and people leadership. The successful candidate will have experience within the construction, ready-mix concrete, aggregates, building materials, or related industries and possess a strong hunter mentality with the ability to develop long-term customer relationships while ensuring operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
Sales & Business Development Partner with senior leadership to develop competitive pricing strategies and project quotations. Manage existing key customer accounts while actively pursuing new business opportunities and projects. Identify new markets and develop relationships to expand market share. Build and maintain strong partnerships with contractors, developers, municipalities, and industry stakeholders. Conduct customer visits, joint sales calls, and networking activities to strengthen business relationships. Represent the organization at industry events, trade shows, and association meetings. Monitor market trends, competitor activity, and pricing to identify growth opportunities. Maintain accurate sales activity, forecasting, and pipeline management using CRM software.
Leadership & Operations
Lead, mentor, coach, and develop a team of drivers and dispatch personnel. Recruit, hire, onboard, and train new employees as required. Conduct ride-alongs, performance reviews, and ongoing coaching sessions. Foster a positive, safety-focused culture built on accountability and exceptional customer service. Collaborate with Operations and senior leadership to develop and execute daily operational plans. Oversee dispatch activities to ensure efficient scheduling, routing, and customer deliveries. Monitor fleet maintenance and equipment scheduling to ensure vehicles remain safe, reliable, and professionally maintained. Participate in operational planning meetings to ensure production and delivery targets are consistently achieved. Ensure compliance with company policies, safety regulations, and operational procedures.
Qualifications
Minimum 7 years of experience within construction, ready-mix concrete, aggregates, building materials, or a related industry. Minimum 3 years of leadership experience managing teams. Proven success in business development, account management, and growing customer relationships. Experience overseeing dispatch, logistics, transportation, or field operations is considered a strong asset. Mechanical aptitude and an understanding of heavy equipment and fleet operations. Valid Class 3 Driver's Licence. Existing relationships with contractors and industry contacts within the Fort St. John region are highly desirable. Strong organizational, planning, communication, and problem-solving skills. Experience utilizing CRM software; NetSuite experience is considered an asset.
