As an Event Specialist, you will administer the intake process for hosting public special events on city land. You will provide guidance to organizers regarding the process and review and track the requests. You will assist with the coordination of festivals and events for the City of Calgary. Primary duties include:

  • Assist festival and event organizers with initial intake of festival and event requests received.
  • Respond to inquiries and conducts initial evaluation of festival and event requests received.
  • Maintain and train colleagues on the systems used to manage festivals and events.
  • Place hold on all bookable space for booking requests and process permits as required on behalf of the Event Coordinator.
  • Work with Communications to ensure online information for the public is accurate.
  • Monitor website content and develop information listings for distribution.
  • Support pre-planning and on-site at events.

Qualifications

  • A completed 1-year certificate in Event Management, Business Administration or a related field plus at least 5 years of directly related work experience; OR
  • A degree in Event Management, Business Administration, or a related field plus at least 1 year of directly related work experience.
  • Emergency First Aid certification is required.
  • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) will be considered assets.
  • Previous knowledge in the cultural sector and arts management would be considered assets.
  • Success in this position requires excellent communication skills as well as strong interpersonal and organizational skills.

Working Conditions: This position may be eligible to work from home for at least part of the time as one of several flexible work options available to City employees. These arrangements depend on the operational requirements of the role, employee suitability, and are subject to change based on operational needs and corporate direction.

Compensation: Pay Grade 8 $37.77 - 50.50 per hour

Days of Work: This position typically works a 5 day

work week, with 1 day off in each 3 week cycle.

Hours of work: Standard 35 hour work week
