Job Title: Senior Manager, Capital Investments
Job Description
The Senior Manager, Capital Investments leads the capital expenditure (capex) function and supports the long-term plan by evaluating, tracking, and optimizing major capital projects across the organization. This role develops complex financial models, provides strategic investment recommendations, and partners closely with cross-functional teams to ensure capital projects deliver targeted financial and operational outcomes. The position also plays a key leadership role in building and mentoring the CAPEX finance team and driving a positive, high-performance work culture.
Responsibilities
Support the capex function by focusing on projects that enable delivery of the long-term plan and ensuring they remain on time, on budget, and aligned with strategic priorities. Compile monthly and year-to-date actual spend and forecast summaries for key projects, tracking timing, budgets, and key actions that require business support. Identify key projects that must be executed in line with the long-term plan and work with engineers to track both cash-based and accrual-based spending. Track changes versus budget for approved capital projects, quantify the financial impact on key performance indicators, and document all changes in accordance with established processes. Develop and maintain a robust methodology for reporting and tracking project operating expenditures (opex). Prepare and present project key performance indicators to the leadership team, including sensitivities, scenario analyses, and the impact of changes in key assumptions. Mentor, train, and develop the CAPEX finance team to ensure team members build strong foundational knowledge and can lead the CAPEX process independently. Oversee fixed asset management, including timely capitalization of construction-in-progress (CIP), write-offs, and impairment reserves, and support implementation and change management of project systems. Lead the development of complex financial models to evaluate proposed capital investment projects and provide clear recommendations, collaborating with Senior stakeholders in relevant global and regional teams. Work with cross-functional and interdepartmental teams to identify and forecast project cash flows and support the calculation of key financial metrics for small, mid-sized, and large projects. Partner with Marketing, Sales, Finance, Engineering, Business Development, and Operations to assess strategic initiatives and develop tools such as budgeting frameworks, capex models, project update templates, and financial presentations to improve productivity. Produce high-quality presentations and other outputs to communicate conclusions and recommendations to Senior management and the Board of Directors. Critically evaluate business plans, forecast models, and capex plans, and prepare post-investment reviews (PIR) where required. Actively role model leadership competencies and foster a positive work environment and culture through consistent use of people processes and tools. Ensure effective performance management by supporting onboarding and induction, coaching and developing team capabilities, conducting development and performance dialogues, participating in performance calibration, and addressing performance issues when necessary. Contribute to talent and succession planning by participating in and developing succession plans in line with established processes. Ensure completion of all required functional compliance training within the team. Make informed recommendations for staff merit increases and bonus targets where applicable. Promote workforce engagement by supporting strategic workforce planning and creating and executing action plans based on employee survey results. Lead by example in upholding company values and hold others accountable for demonstrating the same values in their daily work.
Essential Skills
Extensive experience in capital investments and capex management, including evaluation and oversight of large-scale capital projects. Strong expertise in capital planning, capital portfolio management, and long-term planning. Proven experience in corporate finance and project finance, with the ability to evaluate investment proposals and funding structures. Advanced financial modeling skills for assessing complex capital investment projects. Deep knowledge of investment analysis, including business valuation techniques such as discounted cash flow (DCF), internal rate of return (IRR), and net present value (NPV). Experience in corporate development and strategic finance, with the ability to connect investment decisions to broader business strategy. Strong skills in forecasting, financial reporting, and FP&A related to capital projects and long-term investments. Hands-on experience with fixed asset management, including capitalization of construction-in-progress, write-offs, and impairment reserves. Proficiency with SAP and S/4HANA or similar ERP systems, particularly in capital and fixed asset modules. Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain methodologies for tracking capex and opex at the project level. Experience preparing and presenting project KPIs, sensitivities, and scenario analyses to Sr. leadership. Proven ability to lead, mentor, and develop finance teams, including experience with performance management and talent development. Experience conducting post-investment reviews (PIR) and evaluating the performance of completed capital projects. Demonstrated ability to drive engagement and positive culture within finance or project teams. Familiarity with board-level reporting and governance processes.
