Description Position
Objective: Repair and maintain machinery and mechanical equipment such as pumps, motors, pneumatic tools, agitators, conveyors systems, and production machines and equipment.
Key Result Areas: Performance Standards:
Key Duties
- Observe mechanical devices in operation and troubleshoot packaging equipment failures.
- Dismantle devices to gain access to and remove defective parts.
- Examine form and texture of parts to detect imperfections.
- Inspect used parts to determine changes in dimensional requirements.
- Adjust functional parts of devices and control instruments.
- Repair or replace defective parts. Install special functional and structural parts in devices.
- Lubricate and clean parts.
- Start devices to test their performance.
- Set up and operate drill press, grinder, mill and other metalworking tools to make and repair parts.
- Request parts (stock and equipment) for purchase and implementation.
- Occasional minor welding.
- Pipe fitting.
Purchasing
- Actively pursue lowest cost vendors for maintenance parts.
- Generate, process and file purchase requisitions.
- Track monthly expenditures.
- Maintain and monitor critical spare parts inventory list for key equipment.
- Generate and process purchase orders through Engineering & Reliability Manager Assistant.
- Maintain essential spare parts inventory for key equipment.
- Track monthly expenditures produced by the maintenance shop and transfer data to plant engineer.
Other
- Keep open communication with maintenance staff
- Other duties as assigned
- Comply with GMP and SQF standards.
Preventative Maintenance
- Help create and maintain the proposed preventative maintenance system.
- Maintain current preventative maintenance records.
- Work with production to accommodate maintenance scheduling demands.
- Meet/maintain the PM schedule on all process equipment.
Maintenance
- Maintain packaging equipment.
- Maintain all pumping and mechanical systems.
- Rebuild and repair pumps as required.
- Rebuild and repair conveyor systems are required.
- Fabricate machinery and equipment parts as required.
- Fabricate metal items such as walkways, brackets, plates and so on as required.
- Repair or fabricate and install piping as required.
- Repair tank systems as required.
- Rebuild and install agitator systems as required.
- Perform duties as determined by management.
- Rebuild and repair agitators as required.
Human Resources
- Comply with corporate HR policies and procedures.
- Comply with Union Contract policy and procedures.
- Comply with relevant employment laws.
- Comply with all company policies and procedures.

- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications A COMBINATION OF THE LISTED SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE IS PREFERRED
- Capable of performing maintenance on primary plant equipment.
- Working knowledge of steam application.
- A basic knowledge of refrigeration systems.
- Must possess a Millwright ticket.
- Capable of operating drill press, grinder, mill and other metalworking tools to make and repair parts.
- Welding
- Lead hand experience is an asset.

- The employee must be trained in H2S alive, confined space entry, WHIMIS, GMP, fork truck certification and safe work practice.

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required y this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to risk of toxic chemicals. The employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and is occasionally exposed to humid/wet and/or cold conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to live steam, chemicals heat and other hazards.
