About the role

The Basics

  • This is a full-time, in-office position based in Toronto, ON. This posting is for a current vacancy.
  • Work hours are somewhat flexible, but we’ll generally expect you to be in the office between 9 am and 5 pm Eastern Standard Time.
  • The starting salary range for this position is $65,000 - $80,000.
  • The hiring manager for this position is Patryk Laskowski, and you can see his Linkedin profile here.

In this role, you'll be expected to:

  • Build, assemble, and test prototype hardware systems used in our non-invasive NMR-based glucose measurement device.
  • Support daily lab operations, including setup, equipment calibration, and inventory management, maintaining a safe, organized workspace.
  • Assist with data collection and prototype validation, working alongside engineers and scientists to gather reliable experimental data for algorithm and system development.
  • Fabricate or modify components using 3D printing, basic machining, or soldering, and help prepare builds for integration and testing.
  • Troubleshoot and repair prototypes at the mechanical and electrical levels, escalating issues and contributing to iterative design improvements.
  • Contribute to lab documentation, including build records, test logs, and standardized assembly processes, helping improve repeatability and quality.

You might be right for this role if you:

  • Have at least 2 years of hands-on industry experience in a lab, prototyping, or R&D setting.
  • Are comfortable using lab tools and instruments, such as oscilloscopes, soldering irons, multimeters, and power supplies.
  • Have used Altium to interpret schematics and navigate PCB layouts.
  • Bring experience in medical devices, instrumentation, or precision hardware environments.
  • Enjoy hands-on, detail-oriented work—building, testing, and iterating hardware prototypes.
  • Have a natural curiosity and eagerness to learn, with a proactive approach to understanding how systems fit together across disciplines.
  • Communicate clearly and concisely, knowing when to ask for help and share updates.
  • Thrive in an experimental environment, where priorities shift as we learn and progress toward product readiness.
