JOB OPPORTUNITY: Energy Assessment Engineer

Help shape a more energy‑efficient, sustainable, and climate‑resilient future for Saskatchewan. We are seeking an Energy Assessment Engineer to play a key role in reducing greenhouse gas emissions, improving building performance, and supporting infrastructure decisions across the province.
About the Role
As an Energy Assessment Engineer, you will be responsible for assessing, analyzing, and improving the energy performance of Government of Saskatchewan buildings. You will support the province’s greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction goals by ensuring accuracy in emissions reporting, evaluating facility conditions, and identifying opportunities for energy savings and operational efficiencies.
This role blends engineering, data analysis, facility assessment, and strategic planning, directly influencing capital investment decisions and long‑term sustainability outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the development and verification of energy and GHG emissions inventories for ministry‑owned facilities.
- Analyze energy consumption data and evaluate building performance to identify efficiency opportunities.
- Review energy audits, facility baselines, and technical reports to support provincial GHG reduction strategies.
- Conduct facility assessments related to architectural, mechanical, electrical components, building code compliance, and life‑cycle condition.
- Provide recommendations that guide capital planning, asset retention, and construction project scope.
- Support the evaluation and implementation of emerging technologies, sustainable solutions, and emissions‑reduction strategies.
- Prepare technical reports, present findings to stakeholders, and contribute to long‑range capital and sustainability planning.
- Collaborate with building operators, project managers, engineers, and external consultants to ensure high‑quality data, effective project delivery, and adoption of best practices.
What You Bring
- A degree in Engineering and eligibility for registration with APEGS.
- Strong understanding of energy systems, building science, and GHG emissions estimation methodologies.
- Ability to interpret technical data, assess facility conditions, and develop practical recommendations.
- Knowledge of building codes, facility management, and construction processes.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate complex technical information for non‑technical audiences.
- Experience in sustainability, energy management, or facility assessment is a strong asset.
- Certification in project management, Certified Energy Manager, or facilities management is considered an advantage.
