Early Career Faculty Scholar, Office of Research and Quality Improvement

Position #: 34549

The Department of Family Medicine invites applications for a 0.4EFT Other Academic-Professorship, Early Career Faculty Scholar position, commencing January 5th, 2026, or on a date mutually agreed upon. Salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.

The Early Career Faculty Scholar will support faculty and professors in contributing to the academic mission of the Department of Family Medicine. The position focuses on advancing scholarly work through research, teaching, and service activities aligned with the strategic priorities of the Department. The incumbent will participate in existing departmental research, initiate their own academic projects, and engage in mentorship and training of medical students and residents

Responsibilities:

Scholarly:

  • Participates as a co-investigator and/or collaborator on existing UofM DFM Office of Research & Quality Improvement studies, projects, and major initiatives

  • Initiates investigator driven research and collaborates with local and national colleagues on projects in areas of interest

  • Ensures research is conducted in accordance with departmental, faculty, and university standards and protocols

  • Keeps informed about and, where appropriate, oversees research projects in the department

  • Engages with building a network of family physicians and primary care researchers and learners interested in research within UofM

  • Promotes the development of interdisciplinary research networks

  • Develops and submits competitive research grant applications to local, provincial, and national funding agencies

This includes helping to identify funding opportunities:

  • Prepares manuscripts for submission

  • Presents research findings at academic conferences

  • Develops abstracts and presentation materials to promote departmental research initiatives

  • Contributes to the preparation of research-related reports including interim and final project reports for funders, internal departmental summaries, and strategic research updates

  • Assists with study planning meetings and provides input on study design, timelines, data collection methods, resource allocation, and feasibility

  • Actively engages in academic symposia and scholarly forums to stay informed of emerging research, network with other scholars, and contribute to academic discourse

Educational:

  • Supervision and collaboration within the Integrated Clinician Scholar (ICS) program

  • Coordinate/participate in medical study summer research projects (i.e. BSc Med, co-op students)

Service:

  • Participates in strategic planning for DFM Office of Research and Quality Improvement and related steering committees

  • Sets an example for others by actively trying to increase medical knowledge or enhance medical education by enggaging in research and other scholarly activities

Qualifications:

In 2019 the University of Manitoba, Department of Family Medicine formally established the Office of Research and Quality Improvement (OR&QI) with an expanded role in QI beyond the previous mandate of the Office of Research. The primary objective of the OR&QI is to support the development of quality improvement and research capacity with Family Medicine settings across Manitoba. Required Qualifications:

  • Canadian Citizen or permanent resident

  • M.D. and C.C.F.P. designations

  • Hold a current (or be eligible for) an academic appointment at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor in the Department of Family Medicine within 3-5 years

  • History of excellence in research as evidenced in high quality research output, successful and promising research projects and programs, and significant contributions to the academic and clinical community at the local, national and/or international level

  • Proven skills in leadership, mentorship, and student supervision

  • Demonstrated ability to develop collaborations with intramural and extramural investigators and institutions.
