ONA02 $40.24/hr $57.68/hr
The Registered Nurse provides comprehensive, quality patient and family centered care. The Registered nurse has the knowledge, skill and judgment needed to provide competent, evidence-based nursing practice that complies with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) Standards of Nursing Practice, QCH Policies and Procedures as well as the standards of care appropriate to his/her area of clinical practice.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Conduct comprehensive pre-admission assessments, including health history, medication reconciliation, allergy review, and identification of peri-operative risk factors
- Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and inter-professional team members to optimize patient readiness for surgery and identify required interventions prior to admission
- Demonstrate exceptional interviewing skills and advanced critical-thinking abilities
- Practice to the full scope of the Registered Nurse role within one’s level of competence
- Demonstrate ability to work independently, effectively, proactively, and competently as an active member of the perioperative/surgical healthcare team
- Apply the knowledge, skill, and judgment required to provide competent, evidence-based nursing practice in accordance with College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) Standards of Practice and QCH policies and procedures.
- Demonstrate sound knowledge of multi-service surgical procedures, associated risks, responsibilities and legal considerations for both in-patient and outpatient surgical populations
- Demonstrate strong ability to educate and support patients and families throughout the pre-operative process
- Demonstrate QCH values: collaboration, accountability, innovation, respect
REQUIREMENTS:
- Registered with the College of Nurses of Ontario
- Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing or equivalent
- Current BCLS
- Minimum two (2) years of recent POAC, PACU, Day Surgery or recent surgical nursing experience
- Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills
- Ability to understand, interpret and carry out verbal and written instructions in English
- Ability to work effectively within the nursing and inter-professional team
- Demonstrated proficiency in a computer-based clinical environment and ability to adapt to new and changing technology
PREFERRED:
- Membership in RNAO, and OPANA or NAPAN(C)
- Experience as preceptor/mentor
