Transportation Engineer-in-Training Transportation Jobs With David Evans And Associates The increasing complexities of modern transportation include growing demands, aging infrastructure, rising costs, funding challenges, and environmental concerns. Agencies and communities faced with improving their transportation systems must do more with less. From initial investigations through planning, concept development, final design, and construction, DEA responds with solutions that serve today’s transportation needs while accommodating tomorrow’s growth. Our Transportation Business Unit focuses on five markets: Bridges and Structures, Roads and Highways, Transit and Rail, Smart Mobility and Construction Engineering.

Do you have a passion for pioneering transportation solutions that enhance mobility and sustainability? The Transit and Rail practice is seeking a Transportation Engineer-in- Training in any of the following locations: Salt Lake City, UT; Denver, CO; Tacoma, WA; Portland, OR; College Station, TX; Dallas/Fort Worth, TX; Ontario, CA

What You’ll Do Key Responsibilities :

  • Collaborating on all phases of projects: drafting, design, 3D visualizations, quality reviews, and cost estimating.
  • Performing design tasks on a wide range of transportation projects, including transit, multi-modal, complete streets, freeways, and highways.
  • Preparing and modifying construction documents, reports, specifications, cost estimates, and designs.
  • Analyzing maps, reports, drawings, as-builts, and test results for design projects.
  • Assisting with post-design construction support, responding to RFIs, submittal reviews, as-built preparation, and field observations.
  • Performing construction inspections on a project-specific basis.
  • Coordinating with other engineering disciplines such as bridge design, water resources, traffic design, and surveying.
  • Assisting with utility coordination, including conflict analysis and working with public and private utility companies.

What You Bring Required Qualifications :

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering.
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification or ability to obtain within six months of employment.
  • 0-4 years of professional engineering experience
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to explain technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Experience with MicroStation and OpenRoads Designer and/or Civil3D.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Drafting and design experience with Civil 3D and/or MicroStation/InRoads/OpenRoads, particularly in alignments and 3D design surfaces.
  • Construction experience.
  • 0-4 years of professional engineering experience
  • 1+ years of experience designing transportation projects
