Reporting to the Leader, Communication Systems the Project Engineer will play a key role in managing the quality, budget, and schedule of capital projects aimed at maintaining and enhancing Calgary Transit infrastructure. You will apply your technical expertise across disciplines such as communications and electrical engineering to deliver successful project outcomes. Primary duties include:

  • Prepare procurement documents and evaluate proposals to select consultants, contractors, and vendors.
  • Lead multiple capital projects through all phases: initiation, design, implementation, and commissioning ensuring projects are completed on-time, within budget, and to quality standards.
  • Monitor project expenditures and manage purchase order and invoicing processes.
  • Develop communication plans and coordinate engagement with internal and external partners.
  • Utilize the Program and Project Management (P2M) tool and follow the Corporate and Calgary Transit Project Management Framework.
  • Oversee project close-out activities including transition to operations planning, record drawing, warranties, and Operations & Maintenance manuals. Ensure completion of Construction Completion Certificates and Final Acceptance Certificates.
  • Facilitate lessons learned sessions and resolve outstanding deficiencies with consultants, vendors, and contractors.
  • Work with internal Calgary Transit teams to identify issues, define requirements, and implement optimal solutions.
  • Supervise internal Calgary Transit crews and external contractors during commissioning and initial sustainment phases.

Qualifications

  • A degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering with at least 2 years of relevant professional engineering experience obtained after receiving your P. Eng. Designation and a current licensure as a Professional Engineer with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA) complete with practicing status OR licensure and practicing status by the first day of work Click here for more details.
  • Experience in project management and cybersecurity within rail systems is an asset.
  • The successful candidate will have strong organizational and communication skills.

  • An enhanced security clearance will be conducted.

Workstyle: This position may be eligible to work from home for at least part of the time as one of several flexible work options available to City employees. These arrangements depend on the operational requirements of the role, employee suitability, and are subject to change based on operational needs and corporate direction.

Pre-employment Drug Test: An offer of employment for this position will be conditional on an applicant passing a pre-employment drug test. This test assesses for use of drugs including cannabis. Failure to pass a pre-employment drug test may prevent an applicant from being hired into any safety sensitive position for a period of up to twelve months.

work week earning 1 day off in a 3 week cycle.
