We are looking for highly motivated, values-driven team player to join our Health and Fitness team.
Nature and Scope: The YMCA of Oakville is a charitable organization that strengthens communities in spirit, mind, and body. As a Group Fitness Specialist, you will lead dynamic land- and water-based fitness classes that help members achieve their health and wellness goals in spirit, mind, and body. This role involves delivering high-quality group fitness programming across a range of disciplines, with a particular focus on choreography-based formats—both pre-choreographed and freestyle. These may include Step, Dance, Aquafit, Cyclefit/Spin, Circuit Training, Boxing, Barre, Pilates, and Pre/Post Natal classes.
In addition to leading several classes each week, you will support and coach fellow instructors, facilitate certification opportunities and continuing education credits, and contribute to the administration of adult fitness programs. You’ll also play an active role in member engagement and retention initiatives, such as the My Wellness program.
Location: 410 Rebecca Street, Oakville, Ontario
Hours of work: Full time, 35 hours with various class times, 2-3 nights a week and weekends

Responsibilities:
- Plan, lead, and deliver safe, engaging, and effective group fitness classes across a variety of formats.
- Foster a positive and motivating atmosphere that encourages member participation and accommodates diverse fitness levels.
- Actively contribute to member engagement and retention efforts.
- Support class scheduling, program planning, and administrative tasks related to adult fitness programs.
- Coaching and developing instructors, handling administrative duties, and supporting member engagement and retention initiatives.
- Stay up to date with current fitness trends, instructional methods, and certification requirements.
- Ensure all activities comply with organizational policies, safety protocols, and industry best practices.
- Represent the YMCA as a committed ambassador by consistently providing excellent service and support to members.
- Embody the YMCA’s vision by building meaningful, lasting relationships with members through purposeful and authentic interactions.
Requirements:
- YMCA (or equivalent) Group Fitness certification a must.
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience designing and delivering group fitness classes across various formats, with the ability to support participants of all fitness levels.
- Skilled and passionate group fitness instructor with the ability to design and deliver effective programs across a variety of class formats.
- Specialty certifications in choreography-based disciplines such as Aquafit, CycleFit, Barre, or similar are an asset.
- Strong teamwork skills and a commitment to providing excellent customer service.
- Excellent organizational and administrative skills.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Current CPR and First Aid certification.
- Valid Police Reference Check including Vulnerable Sector Screening.
Desired:
- YMCA Champion Certification.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
