Position Summary
Reporting to the Manager, Payroll & Benefits, the Payroll & Benefits Administrator plays a key role in supporting the end to end payroll accounting activities across all De Havilland aviation entities. This position processes core accounting procedures, including month end, quarter end, and year end payroll-related transactions, as well as responding to payroll finance inquiries.
As a trusted partner to both Finance and HR, you will act as a central liaison between the two teams—providing guidance, fostering collaboration, and helping ensure accurate, timely, and compliant payroll operations.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Process weekly and biweekly payroll for salaried, hourly-non-union, and hourly-union pay groups across Canada, as well as a smaller monthly international pay group.
- Provide coordination support for our payroll inbox, including password resets, employment verification letters, updates to employee records including adjusting pay rate(s), changing employee status, calculating final pay, issuing ROE’s, etc.
- Regular participation in compliance reviews for statutory reporting and filing requirements in provincial and federal regulations, including Stats Canada and Service Canada requests.
- Prepare weekly, monthly, quarterly, and year-end reporting using Ceridian Dayforce exported to Excel.
- Assist in developing and updating payroll procedures and documentation.
- Maintain and update employee payroll records, including new hires, terminations, pay rate changes, status updates, and organizational transfers.
- Assist in the calculation and process of complex payroll transactions such as bonuses, commissions, retroactive pay, severance, and final payments.
- Reconcile payroll registers, general ledger accounts, and benefit deductions; investigate and resolve discrepancies.
- Develop, document, and improve payroll processes, procedures, and internal controls to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
- Collaborate with HR, Finance, and external stakeholders to ensure alignment on compensation, benefits, and reporting requirements.
- Support annual benefits renewals, audits, and reporting requirements.
Education & Experience
- 3+ years of full-cycle payroll experience, including knowledge of multi-provincial and federal regulations.
- Excellent time management skills with exceptional attention to detail.
- Advanced or expert knowledge of Excel and proficiency with Microsoft Office tools, specifically SharePoint.
- Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills are required, along with the demonstrated ability to handle sensitive issues with a high degree of professionalism.
- Strong work ethic, customer service focus, and a positive “can do” team attitude.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
- Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) designation is an asset.
Work Location & Conditions of Employment:
- Candidate will be required to work onsite in Calgary, Alberta.
