Duties and Responsibilities:

The Director, Reporting and Student Information Systems (SIS) plays a key role as a member of the Office of the Registrar leadership team in planning and implementation of short and long-term departmental and institutional strategic operational priorities. The Director leads an exciting team of managers and staff who are responsible for the functional configuration of admission, registration, fee configuration, and reporting systems, including the overall direction of central campus scheduling. As an expert in SIS, the incumbent leads the functional direction, integration, implementation and testing of information systems and related technology to support the Durham College strategic academic business plans. The incumbent will liaise directly with Information and Technology Services (ITS) and must have both the technical knowledge and experience with registrarial operations to articulate direction and requirements to Information Technology Systems (ITS) in support of system upgrades, maintenance and large-scale projects.

As a key player for Student Data Governance and as the college's Chief Data Steward, the incumbent is responsible for the collection of all student-related data (integrity, use, and storage), reporting functions, services required to support efficient college-wide planning, and strategic decisions. The successful incumbent will foster and develop a strong team environment with high levels of employee engagement. They will participate in and supervise the preparation and recommendation of detailed budgets with cost estimates and will establish and maintain budgetary controls for the Reporting and Student Information Systems department.

The incumbent will also be responsible for the following:

  • Oversees the development of the audited enrolment submission for MCURES which represents significant revenues for the college. This includes ensuring accurate interpretation and implementation of MCURES operating policies, procedures and reporting requirements.
  • Plays a lead role in driving the development, testing, production, validation and dissemination of applicant and student-related reports (e.g. retention, recruiting, admissions and enrolment) for a wide range of internal clients.
  • Responsible for directing the development, testing, production, validation and distribution of a number of Ministry-related reports relating to, but not limited Key Performance Indicator (KPI) graduation rate, detailed graduate reports, Second Career and WSIB reporting, CSER and Off-count college reporting,
  • Is responsible for receiving and vetting data requests from non-Ministry related external bodies (e.g. Consultants). For approved requests, the incumbent is responsible for the preparation, validation and dissemination of the required information.
  • Collaborate with key institutional stakeholders in ITS and Office of Research, Innovation (ORSIE). Collaborates closely with IT to provide leadership and support for the development, implementation and maintenance of the data warehouse, reporting technologies, develops student data standards, including a student data dictionary, collection timelines, data storage standards and standardized reporting.
  • Provides leadership in developing detailed and sophisticated analysis for departments to assist in operational planning and institutional accountability.
  • Engages in building the capacity of the Office of the Registrar reporting team by providing or facilitating training and mentoring in student data extraction, reporting and analysis.

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of a 4-year diploma/degree in Computer Science, Information Management, Business Administration, or a related field of study.
  • The successful candidate will have a minimum of five years’ experience in a similar role, preferably in a multi-campus post-secondary education environment with a record of accomplishment and success implementing higher education solutions in an Office of the Registrar environment.
  • The successful incumbent will possess excellent leadership skills and the ability to create a culture of accountability and performance, build and sustain critical relationships internally and externally. The incumbent will be a highly motivated individual and able to function in a high-volume, stressful environment where multitasking is the norm. Strong interpersonal and client service skills with sound judgment, problem solving, decision-making, and conflict resolution skills are necessary. The Director will be responsible for managing the staff of the Reporting and Student Information Systems department – managing required staffing levels, recruitment, selection, performance management and evaluation and discipline.
  • Experience managing a fully integrated Student Information System (Banner knowledge an asset) as well as a sound working knowledge of information systems. The incumbent will have knowledge of data warehousing systems and techniques, query programs and report writing with strong analytical, organizational and decision-making skills. They will have experience with project management as well as business process functional review, analysis and process improvement skills.
