Job Synopsis
Mennonite Central Committee British Columbia’s Assistant, Advancement supports MCC BC’s mission of sharing God’s love through global and local relief, development, and peacebuilding by helping the Advancement Team raise funds and awareness and by gaining hands‑on experience in donor and community engagement that invites British Columbians into this community‑transforming work.
Reporting to the Associate Director, Advancement and working under the day-to-day supervision of various Advancement Team members, this hands-on internship will introduce participants to the work of MCC BC through active involvement in a high-performing fundraising and communications team. The Assistant, Advancement role has an emphasis on event planning, donor data management and donor appreciation initiatives. It provides support across a variety of activities, which may include responding to donor inquiries, making donor thank-you calls, updating donor records, supporting donor communications, assisting with upcoming MCC BC events, supporting activities in the Material Resources Warehouse, completing administrative tasks, and providing relief to team members as needed.
As an integral member of the team, this position requires a personal alignment with MCC BC’s Christian identity and values, which are rooted in Jesus, the Anabaptist community of faith, and the work of reconciliation. The role includes participation in devotionals and prayer within MCC BC, as well as at churches or faith gatherings, and calls for representing MCC and its work with integrity in all settings.

Qualifications
- Demonstrated commitment to a personal Christian faith and discipleship, active participation in a Christian church or Christian community, and nonviolent peacemaking.
- Must meet eligibility requirements of the Canada Summer Jobs Program (Who can take part - Canada.ca).
- be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the job and
- be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations, including having a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of their summer job
- If you have a SIN that begins with a 9, you must provide proof of residency. Acceptable documents include:
- a letter from the Immigration and Refugee Board of Canada (IRB) confirming refugee status or
- a valid Permanent Resident Card
- Post‑secondary education in business, marketing, communications, or a related field is preferred.
- Event planning and coordination experience preferred.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.
- Strong attention to detail, highly organized, and able to work independently as needed.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs, including Excel.
- Positive, adaptable, and honest, with a strong work ethic and willingness to learn.
- Basic graphic design and website updating skills preferred.
- Comfortable building rapport on the phone, experience in telephone-based sales or customer service an asset.
- Comfort analyzing basic data or reports is an asset.
- Comfortable learning online project and donor management systems.
- Legally eligible to work in Canada.
- Valid BC Driver’s Licence along with a satisfactory Driver’s Abstract preferred.
- Satisfactory criminal record check clearance upon hire.
Key Responsibilities
EVENTS & COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT
- Support the planning and delivery of events, including event ideation and coordination, vendor and stakeholder contact, communications preparation, and on-site set-up and take-down.
- Maintain and update church and volunteer records.
- Support organizational communications by updating websites and social media platforms, as directed.
- Assist with engagement activities and operational support within MCC BC’s Material Resources Warehouse, as needed.
DONOR SUPPORT & SERVICING
- Contact donors by phone and email to express appreciation for their support, using video, written, or digital media as appropriate.
- Respond to donor inquiries by phone, email, and in-person, including updating donor records and supporting basic prospect research.
- Support the preparation and execution of fundraising and stewardship mailings, including material preparation and distribution.
- Assist in reviewing and updating donor information in the donor database.
- Assist with creating and sharing reports related to donor engagement and campaign effectiveness.
TEAM OPERATIONS
- Organize and maintain team and organizational files, records, and supplies.
- Participate in team meetings, supporting meeting coordination, note-taking, and follow-up.
- Provide administrative and reception support to other teams as needed, including visitor assistance, phone coverage, filing, and record-keeping.
ORGANIZATIONAL PARTICIPATION & CULTURE
- Participate fully in MCC BC’s organizational life, including meetings, training, devotionals, and prayer.
- Model MCC BC’s Christian identity and values in professional conduct and relationships.
- Follow MCC BC policies, safeguarding practices, and standards of conduct.
- Contribute to a respectful, safe, and accountable organizational culture that prevents and addresses abuse of power.
- Other related duties as requested by the Associate Director, Advancement.

22 Jun, 2026 - may be adjusted, or until suitable candidate is identified.
Term Length
Summer term - up to 10 weeks with a possible extension of 3 weeks.
Salary Details
. $21.63 per hour.

This is a summer term, hourly position working 37.5 hours per week for up to 10 weeks with a possible extension of 3 weeks.
This position operates primarily within general office hours of 8:30 – 4:30 pm, Monday to Friday. May require extended, after or holiday hours to participate in organizational events or to support special organizational initiatives, as necessary.
Work environment and physical demands: This position works in a busy office environment with high day-to-day variation, including receiving and responding to unanticipated requests from managers, employees and volunteers; and providing support on deadline-driven organizational projects and initiatives. As such, moderate mental stress is expected. This position may require up to 100% computer-monitor time. This position may require lifting up to 20 pounds (9 kilograms). This position will have low interactions with vulnerable populations.
Location Description
This position is located primarily at MCC BC’s Abbotsford head office. Providing support to team members, or to support special organizational initiatives, may require travel to other MCC BC locations within the Fraser Valley and Metro Vancouver area.
