Pay: $20.85 per hour plus benefits after 6 months

About the Role

We’re looking for a Peer Support Worker to join our team at Alpha House. Peer Support Workers are front-line Indigenous staff who deliver Indigenous programming and engage with clients where they are in their recovery journey. In this role, you’ll help clients strengthen connections to their culture, community, and personal wellness through support, programming, and outreach. Your responsibilities would include:

  • Seeking out clients who may be isolating and encouraging participation in programming

  • Escorting clients on daily outings and facilitating Indigenous cultural activities

  • Connecting with Indigenous clients and supporting them in reconnecting with their heritage

  • Assisting clients with personal hygiene and daily living activities

  • Performing required chores and helping to maintain a safe, clean, and respectful environment

About You

We are looking for a passionate Peer Support Worker to join our team. The ideal candidate would have the following:

  • Identify as Indigenous

  • High school diploma (post-secondary education considered an asset)

  • Preference for those with Peer Support training and/or Wellbriety certification

  • Appropriate literacy and communication skills

  • Lived experience related to addictions and/or homelessness

  • Experience in crisis management, problem solving, de-escalation, and conflict resolution

  • Preference for experience supporting individuals with addictions, mental health, or homelessness

  • Proven ability to remain calm under pressure and build rapport with clients

  • Strong interpersonal communication skills, demonstrating dignity and respect

  • Compassionate, non-judgmental, and empathetic toward individuals facing addictions and mental health challenges

  • Team-oriented with solid written and oral communication skills

  • Appreciation for cultural traditions and awareness of Indigenous resources and practices

  • Computer literacy, including proficiency with MS Word, Excel, and Outlook

  • and thorough understanding of the Protection of Persons in Care Act

Position Requirements

  • Preference for candidates with a valid Alberta Class 5 driver’s license

  • Ability to complete Privacy training

  • “It’s Your Move” or equivalent patient lift training

  • Ability to work in environments with exposure to second-hand smoke and individuals experiencing addiction and mental health challenges

  • Willingness to attend meetings, training sessions, and lead or drive clients on wellness outings
