Job Description

SGS is currently working in partnership with H2Safety to hire a Training Specialist (Emergency Response) in the Calgary office.

Responsibilities

Program Development

  • Design and develop comprehensive emergency response training programs tailored to various client needs and industries.
  • Create training materials, including manuals, presentations, and hands-on exercises, ensuring they are up to date with current best practices and regulatory requirements.

Training Delivery

  • Conduct engaging and effective training sessions for clients, utilizing a variety of instructional techniques and formats.
  • Facilitate both in- person and virtual training sessions, adapting content and delivery methods to suit different learning environments.
  • Plan and conduct emergency response drills and simulations to test and reinforce client preparedness.
  • Evaluate the outcomes of drills and provide detailed reports with recommendations for improvement.
  • Travel to remote locations as required for in-person training sessions.

Evaluation and Improvement

  • Assess the effectiveness of training programs through feedback, evaluations, and performance metrics.
  • Continuously improve training programs based on client feedback, industry trends, and regulatory changes.

Compliance, Certification, and Documentation

  • Ensure all training programs comply with relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards.
  • Assist clients in achieving and maintaining necessary certifications and compliance related to emergency response.
  • Maintain detailed records of training activities, participant progress, and program outcomes.
  • Prepare and present reports on training effectiveness and areas for improvement to clients and company management.

Collaboration and Business Development

  • Collaborate with other H2Safety operational managers to align training with customer requirements and communication strategies.

  • Support marketing efforts by showcasing the company’s training capabilities and successes.

  • Assist in the development of proposals and presentations for potential clients to secure new business.

  • Stay updated with the latest trends, technologies, and best practices in emergency response and training methodologies.

  • Participate in professional development opportunities and industry conferences to enhance expertise.

Qualifications

  • Advanced training and experience in Emergency Management, Occupational Health and Safety, or a related field.
  • Relevant certifications such as Certified Emergency Manager (CEM), Certified Safety Professional (CSP), or equivalent.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in emergency response, safety training, or a related field.
  • A proven track record in developing and delivering training programs for diverse audiences.
  • Valid certifications in emergency response or safety training is an asset.
  • First Aid/CPR certification is preferred.
  • A valid Class 5 driver’s license with at least three years of reportable driving history in Canada.
  • A clean or minimal demerit point driver’s abstract with no significant traffic violations.
  • Must have the ability to travel to client sites as required.
  • Familiarity with the Incident Command System (ICS) is a requirement.
  • In-depth knowledge of emergency response procedures, protocols, and best practices.
  • Thorough understanding of relevant regulations, standards, and compliance requirements (e.g., BCER, AER, OSHA, NFPA).
  • Familiarity with various training methodologies and adult learning principles.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to assess training needs and evaluate program effectiveness.
  • High level of adaptability and flexibility to adjust training approaches based on different client requirements and feedback.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, showing initiative and leadership in project execution.
  • Strong ability to learn and teach software tools and applications, including the H2Safety Command Centre Software suite, which will be utilized in certain training sessions.
  • High degree of self-discipline and strong scheduling/organizational skills.
  • Calgary office-based position.
  • Ability to travel as this position requires extensive travelling mainly throughout Alberta.

Preferred Skills

  • Completion of Incident Command System (ICS) Level 100, 200, or 300.
  • Certified to instruct Incident Command System (ICS) Level 100 or 200.
  • Completion of an Adult Education certification and/or knowledge of adult learning principles.
  • Experience developing new training content and/or working in a Learning Management System (LMS).
  • Emergency response experience, understanding of emergency response plans (ERPs), and/or knowledge of emergency response related legislation, regulations, and compliance.
  • Oil and gas knowledge / industry work experience.

Pay range and compensation package

This position can be permanent fulltime but we are willing to consider candidates who would prefer to be a
contractor.
