Job Summary
The Houseperson supports the Housekeeping Department by ensuring adequate inventory levels for guest room floors, maintaining the cleanliness of public and back-of-house areas, and responding promptly to guest and operational requests. This role is essential to the overall cleanliness, safety, and efficiency of hotel operations and guest satisfaction.
Compensation
- Starting wage: CA$21.23/hour during probation
- After probation: CA$26.54/hour
Qualifications
- Minimum 1 year of cleaning experience in a hotel or related industry preferred
- Ability to communicate effectively with guests, co-workers, and management
- Strong organizational and problem‑solving skills
- Good oral and written communication skills
- Ability to perform physical duties including prolonged standing, bending, pushing carts, and lifting up to 70 lbs
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
Key Responsibilities
Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
Public & Back‑of‑House Cleaning
- Maintain cleanliness of all public areas including furniture, ledges, floors, doors, frames, hinges, garbage receptacles, tables, light fixtures, signage, and entrance areas
- Clean turnaround areas, entrances, and entrance mats
- Clean and maintain all public washrooms, including sinks, partitions, fixtures, receptacles, and supplies
- Empty garbage containers and disinfect high‑touch surfaces
- Clean administrative offices
- Polish stainless steel and chrome surfaces, including elevators
- Vacuum and steam clean carpets; perform spot cleaning as required
Inventory & Operational Support
- Collect garbage from all hotel areas including grounds and parking lots
- Prepare and maintain required par stock of linens for guest rooms and Food & Beverage departments
- Ensure linen and supply inventory is stocked on assigned guest room floors for Room Attendants
- Keep accurate records of daily productivity and assigned tasks
Guest & Team Support
- Respond promptly to radio and/or HotSOS requests
- Deliver guest items such as cots, cribs, towels, and other requested supplies
- Support housekeeping and hotel operations as directed by management
Safety & Standards
- Perform all tasks in accordance with hotel standards, health and safety guidelines, and WHMIS requirements
- Report safety hazards, maintenance issues, or damaged equipment to management
- Use hotel equipment responsibly and maintain cleanliness of tools and storage areas
- Perform other duties as assigned by Management
Working Conditions
- Shift work including weekends and holidays may be required
- Hours of work, rest periods, and overtime are scheduled in accordance with the Ontario ESA
