The Sexual Violence Prevention and Response Coordinator is responsible for providing senior level leadership, management, community development, coordination and implementation of sexual violence prevention policies, programs, funding and services.
This position will collaborate with provincial justice, health, family services, and educational system partners and stakeholders, non-governmental services providers and/or volunteers, community stakeholders and people affected by sexual violence throughout the province to build awareness, build capacity, and enhance coordinated responses to sexual violence prevention.
The Sexual Violence Prevention & Response Coordinator will be leading work related to the PEI Sexual Violence Prevention Strategy and reports directly to the Director of the Interministerial Women’s Secretariat.
Duties will include but are not limited to:
- Provide operational and administrative leadership to the Coordinating Committee for the Sexual Violence Prevention Strategy;
- Coordinate, facilitate, support and participate in learning events, webinars of particular topics and relevance for sexual violence prevention;
- Work with post-secondary institutions in efforts towards sexual violence prevention and safer campuses;
- Draft policy for sexual violence related initiatives;
- Research, prepare and provide response materials for the Director, Deputy Minister, and Minister;
- Maintain competencies and subject matter knowledge in sexual violence prevention to provide leadership, and subject matter expertise to Deputy Ministers, Directors, Managers, and Supervisors of the various provincial departments in the development of sexual violence prevention practices, policies, and programming;
- Responsible for coordinating resource planning, service delivery and implementation of the provincial adult sexual violence prevention and response strategy;
- Responsible for training government and government agency staff, justice and public safety service providers, community organizations, school systems and the general public on the dynamics of sexual violence and gender-based violence as well as promising practices for prevention efforts;
- Prepare and deliver numerous training events and public education awareness sessions for a broad range of audiences including government, community, corporate sector, professionals, students, etc., on a variety of issues including child sexual assault, gender-based violence, internet safety, and healthy relationships;
- Develop and update a resource list of provincial, national and international data and statistics that relate to sexual violence and sexual violence prevention (including child sexual abuse, incest, post-secondary best practices, sharing of intimate images);
- Provide leadership and expertise to departments on issues related to sexual violence and sexual violence prevention, particularly as they arise in media inquiries, community inquiries, national reports, and United Nations Convention responses;
- Prepare proposals, policy statements, reports, briefing notes, responses assistance with communication products, and Treasury Board/Executive Council memos and;
- Administrative duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications:
- A Master’s Degree in Education, Social Work, or related field.
- Demonstrated equivalencies will be considered.
- Considerable experience in the following areas:
- Planning and policy development.
- Research in social sciences.
- Change management and strategic planning within a complex work environment.
- Community development.
- Counselling.
- Leading and facilitating groups.
- Communicating with partners and/or stakeholders on initiatives.
- Conducting research and analysis and devising recommendations .
- Program evaluation.
- Working with law enforcement.
- Excellent skills and knowledge in the following areas:
- Demonstrated ability in problem solving and conflict resolution.
- Ability to empower, develop, motivate and engage others in action.
- Analytical skills.
- Ability to analyze complex issues and the implications for Prince Edward Island, and provide advice to senior management.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Oral and written skills.
- Ability to work independently at a senior level.
- Exceptional leadership, interpersonal and communication skills are imperative.
Other Qualifications/Assets:

Eligibility to be registered with the PEI Social Work Registration Board or the College of Counselling Therapy PEI.
