About the role

Position Summary

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Abilities, Wellness and Ergonomics, the Ergonomics Summer Student will support the Occupational Health & Safety team in delivering practical Ergonomics and Return-to-Work programs. This role focuses on conducting Physical Demands Analyses (PDAs), maintaining the PDA database, supporting workplace accommodations, and leading the rollout of a Stretch Program for all production and administrative employees onsite.

Working under the guidance of experienced professionals, the student will gain hands-on exposure to Ergonomics Assessments, injury prevention strategies, and disability management processes in a fast-paced operational environment.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Conduct Physical Demands Analyses (PDAs) for operational roles, including observation, documentation, and validation with site leaders;
  • Maintain and update the PDA database, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and accessibility of job demands data;
  • Assist in reviewing employee functional abilities and support alignment with appropriate modified duties and accommodation plans;
  • Support the coordination of Return-to-Work (RTW) and accommodation processes, including documentation and follow-ups;
  • Participate in Job Hazard Assessments (JHAs) and Ergonomic Risk Assessments to identify improvement opportunities;
  • Assist in identifying ergonomic risks and recommending practical, low-complexity solutions to reduce injury risk;
  • Collaborate with operations, HR, and Health & Safety teams to gather job information and support case management needs;
  • Help develop and update basic ergonomics resources, tools, and tracking documents;
  • Support data collection and reporting on ergonomic trends and workplace risks;
  • Key Project Ownership – Stretch Program Rollout
  • Lead the implementation of a workplace stretch program for hourly production employees;
  • Develop a rollout plan and schedule across departments/shifts in collaboration with Operations and Health & Safety;
  • Deliver on-floor demonstrations and coaching to support adoption and proper technique;
  • Create or adapt simple training materials and visual aids to support sustainability of the program;
  • Track participation, feedback, and basic effectiveness metrics, and provide recommendations for improvement;
  • Act as a program champion, helping to drive engagement and consistency across teams.

Requirements: Education

  • Currently enrolled in a post-secondary program in Kinesiology, Ergonomics, Occupational Health & Safety, or related field.

Experience

  • Previous exposure (academic or practical) to ergonomics, human movement, or workplace safety is an asset;
  • Experience leading group activities, coaching, or teaching (e.g., sports, fitness, dance, etc.) is an asset.

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong attention to detail and ability to document observations accurately;
  • Basic understanding of body mechanics, posture, and movement demands;
  • Ability to confidently lead and engage groups in stretch/exercise activities;
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Organized and able to manage multiple tasks and priorities;
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and data tracking tools;
  • Self-starter with the ability to take ownership of a project and drive it forward;
  • Hands-on experience conducting PDAs and workplace assessments;
  • Exposure to disability management and accommodation practices;
