Job Description
We are seeking a General Foreman, Maintenance and Surface to join our team at Levack Mine!
The General Foreman, Maintenance and Surface is responsible for sustainable and reliable mine operations and continuous improvement at Magna Mining Inc.’s Levack Mine.
All Magna Mining team members are expected to work collaboratively with others, lead the way in health and safety, act with honesty, integrity, and foster an entrepreneurial spirit in pursuit of excellence.
Responsibilities:

Lead, mentor, and manage a multidisciplinary team including maintenance supervisors, tradespeople, planners, contractors, and surface personnel.
-
Plan, direct, and coordinate all maintenance activities related to underground mobile equipment, surface equipment, and site infrastructure.
-
Ensure preventative, predictive, and corrective maintenance programs are implemented and followed to maximize equipment reliability and availability.
-
Oversee maintenance of mobile mining equipment including drills, loaders, trucks, utility equipment, and support vehicles.
-
Oversee maintenance of surface infrastructure including hoisting systems, ventilation systems, pumping systems, power distribution, and site facilities.
-
Coordinate maintenance schedules with operations to minimize downtime and ensure efficient production support.
-
Monitor equipment performance and identify opportunities to improve reliability, maintenance practices, and asset life.
-
Ensure effective planning and scheduling of maintenance work, including parts availability, labour allocation, and contractor coordination.

Ensure full compliance with all applicable mining, health, safety, and environmental legislation.

Promote a proactive safety culture across all maintenance and surface operations and lead by example.
-
Conduct and participate in safety audits, inspections, incident investigations, and emergency response activities.

Ensure proper lockout/tagout, energy isolation, and safe work procedures are followed during maintenance activities.

Maintain and update maintenance procedures, risk assessments, and training documentation.

Drive workforce planning, performance reviews, skills development, and succession planning for maintenance teams.

Foster an inclusive, collaborative, and high-performance work culture.

Develop and manage maintenance operating budgets and capital expenditure plans.

Monitor maintenance costs including labour, materials, contractors, and inventory.

Identify and implement cost-effective maintenance strategies that improve reliability without compromising safety.

Work closely with operations, technical services, and supply chain teams to ensure maintenance activities support operational goals.

Review and analyze maintenance reports, equipment availability metrics, failure trends, and key performance indicators.

Ensure accurate maintenance data capture and reporting within the site maintenance management system.
-
Support procurement and inventory management strategies for critical spare parts and maintenance materials.
-
Liaise with vendors, contractors, and technical specialists to support maintenance activities and equipment improvements.
-
Identify opportunities for operational improvements through innovation, technology, and process optimization.
-
Lead change management initiatives that improve equipment reliability, maintenance efficiency, and operational performance.
-
Promote best practices across maintenance teams and contribute to organizational knowledge sharing.
Requirements
Qualifications: Formal Education, Certifications or Equivalents
-
Post-secondary education in a mechanical, electrical, industrial, or mining-related field is considered an asset.
-
Trade certification (e.g., Millwright, Heavy Duty Equipment Technician, Electrician) is considered an asset.
Work Experience: Nature & Length
-
15 or more year of mining or heavy industrial maintenance experience.
-
8 or more years of experience in a leadership role.
Key Competencies: Behaviours & Skills
-
Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
-
Strong knowledge of maintenance practices for underground mobile equipment and surface infrastructure.
-
Sound knowledge of preventative and predictive maintenance programs.
-
Familiarity with mining regulations, occupational health and safety practices, and emergency response procedures.

Established analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot equipment and operational issues.

Strong ability to coordinate maintenance priorities with operational requirements.

Proficiency with maintenance management systems and reporting tools is considered an asset.
