Position Overview
The Labour Planner is responsible for developing and maintaining effective labour plans that support production schedules while optimizing workforce utilization, cost, and compliance. This role works closely with Production, Operations, HR, and Scheduling teams to ensure the right labour is in place to meet daily and weekly manufacturing requirements.
Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain short and medium term labour plans aligned with production schedules and forecasted demand
- Translate production plans into labour requirements by shift, line, and skill level
- Monitor labour utilization and adjust plans to address absenteeism, overtime, volume changes, and operational constraints
- Partner with Production Supervisors to ensure labour plans support operational priorities and service levels
- Analyze labour efficiency, productivity, and variance against plan, identifying risks and improvement opportunities
- Support workforce planning decisions including overtime, temporary labour, and shift adjustments
- Ensure labour plans comply with collective agreements, labour standards, and company policies
- Maintain accurate labour data and planning assumptions within planning or scheduling systems
- Prepare reports and provide insights on labour capacity, coverage, and cost drivers
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives related to labour planning and scheduling
Qualifications
- Post secondary education in Business, Operations, Supply Chain, or a related field
- 2–5 years of experience in labour planning, production planning, scheduling, or a similar role in a manufacturing environment
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to translate data into actionable plans
- Experience working in a unionized manufacturing environment is considered an asset
- Proficiency with Excel and planning/scheduling systems (ERP or workforce planning tools preferred)
- Strong communication and collaboration skills with the ability to work cross functionally
- Ability to manage changing priorities in a fast paced environment
Salary will be determined based on the candidate's skills, experience, and internal equity.
