Job Title: Commercial Counsel – Canada
Location: Ontario (virtual/remote)
Position Summary
Reporting to the Chief Counsel, Canada, the successful applicant will serve as one of the legal partners for Canadian customer and supplier matters, acting as the primary partner for certain business lines.
The Commercial Counsel provides support for business initiatives and advises the business on legal and regulatory matters in relation to the operation of the NCR Atleos business in Canada.
Key Areas of Responsibility:
- Partner with business clients to review, analyze, draft, and negotiate customer and vendor commercial agreements (including leases) and other documents
- Advise the business on legal matters in relation to NCR Atleos services, practices and operations, and any new products
- Oversee corporate maintenance and recordkeeping
- Liaise and manage external counsel where appropriate
- Interpret and advise on payment network rules and related legislation
- Lead compliance efforts and policy updates or implementation on regulatory matters
- Work with others internally, such as compliance, marketing, product management, product development, pricing and finance, and accounting along with legal subject matter experts in-house and externally, to develop legal approaches and programs to support new business initiatives and handle commercial disputes
- Develop, revise and implement standard template agreements for certain of NCR Atleos’ offerings
- Provide internal training on relevant legal issues
- Develop and maintain in-depth knowledge of NCR Atleos’ procedures, processes and policies
- Other duties as assigned
Basic Qualifications:
- 2 - 4 years’ experience in commercial/transactional law, ideally with a mix of law firm and in-house experience
- Knowledge of commercial contract laws and practices
- Excellent communication skills with ability to negotiate at high levels
- Strong writing skills and attention to detail
- Ability to work under short deadlines and outside normal working hours with minimal advance notice and minimal supervision; self-sufficient and independent
- Confidence in client- and customer-facing situations, presenting a positive and professional image; excellent interpersonal skills
- Membership in good standing with the Ontario Bar
- French language is an asset
- Experience in the payments or technology sector is an asset
- Cross border experience is an asset
