About the role

An architectural hardware consultant's job involves acting as an expert for door openings in construction projects by creating hardware schedules and specifications that meet design intent, building codes, and security requirements. Key responsibilities include collaborating with architects, ensuring compliance with fire, life safety, and accessibility codes, and providing training on hardware products and best practices. This role requires extensive knowledge of both mechanical and electronic hardware, as well as strong communication and project management skills.

  • Review project plans: Analyze architectural drawings to ensure hardware specifications align with the overall design.

  • Write specifications: Create detailed hardware schedules and specifications in standard formats, such as CSI/DHI.

  • Ensure code compliance: Ensure all hardware selections meet relevant fire, life safety, accessibility, and building codes.

  • Manage projects: Oversee complex new construction and renovation projects from a hardware perspective, coordinating thousands of items and options.

  • Provide training and education: Educate architects, contractors, and other stakeholders on hardware products, specifications, and installation best practices.

  • Offer expert advice: Advise clients on how to select hardware that meets their needs, aligns with project lifecycle goals, and stays within budget.

  • Deep knowledge of advanced mechanical and electronic door hardware products.

  • Ability to read and interpret architectural drawings and use computer-aided design (CAD) software, as well as proficiency in Microsoft Office suite.

  • Strong written and oral communication skills to effectively interact with various project stakeholders.

  • Ability to adapt to shifting priorities and solve problems in a high-pressure environment.

  • High level of attention to detail is crucial for accuracy in specifications and code compliance.

  • Proficiency in project management principles and the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.

  • AHC Certification is considered an asset

  • Post Secondary education in a related field
