Our institution is seeking an exceptional leader to serve as our next Associate Vice President, Human Resources (AVP HR). Reporting to the Vice President Students and Campus Experience, the Associate Vice President, Human Resources provides visionary leadership for the institution’s people and culture strategy. As a key member of the senior leadership team, the AVP HR partners across the organization to foster an engaged, inclusive, and high-performing workplace that advances institutional goals.
This is an opportunity to influence institutional strategy, strengthen organizational culture, and help position the institution as an employer of choice. The successful candidate is a respected HR executive with demonstrated success leading people strategies in a complex organization. They will lead a talented Human Resources team while partnering across the organization to ensure our people practices enable exceptional outcomes for employees, students, and the communities we serve. The AVP HR will help shape the institution's future of work strategy, ensuring the responsible and effective adoption and integration of artificial intelligence and emerging technologies while supporting employee readiness, leadership capability, and organizational resilience.
The Opportunity
As a member of NAIT’s Senior Leadership Council, the AVP HR provides strategic advice on workforce planning, organizational effectiveness, leadership development, labour relations, talent acquisition, total rewards, employee wellness, payroll and human resources governance.
You will champion innovative people strategies that support institutional priorities while ensuring the organization remains agile, accountable, and prepared for future workforce challenges. Success in this role requires balancing strategic thinking with practical execution, building trusted relationships across the institution, and leading through change with confidence and integrity.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and implement a long-term people strategy aligned with institutional priorities. Provide strategic advice to executive and senior leaders on complex people, organizational, and workforce matters. Lead all human resources functions, including talent acquisition, labour and employee relations, total rewards, organizational development, leadership development, workforce planning, HR operations, payroll and employee wellness. Foster a respectful, inclusive, and psychologically safe workplace where employees can thrive. Lead collective bargaining strategy and support productive relationships with employee groups and unions. Guide organizational change initiatives and strengthen leadership capability across the institution. Ensure compliance with employment legislation, collective agreements, and relevant policies. Use data and analytics to inform workforce decisions and measure organizational effectiveness. Build a culture of continuous improvement, service excellence, and innovation within Human Resources. Develop, mentor, and inspire a high-performing HR leadership team.

Qualifications
A graduate degree in Human Resources, Business, Organizational Development, Public Administration, or a related field. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Significant senior leadership experience with progressively increasing responsibility in human resources. Experience leading broad HR portfolios within a complex, multi-stakeholder environment. Strong understanding of labour relations, collective bargaining, employment legislation, organizational design, and workforce planning. Demonstrated understanding of the opportunities and challenges presented by artificial intelligence and emerging technologies, including their implications for workforce planning, leadership, employee development, and organizational effectiveness. Demonstrated success leading organizational transformation and large-scale change initiatives. Outstanding communication, relationship-building, negotiation, and influencing skills. A collaborative leadership style that builds trust, develops people, and encourages innovation. Experience using data, evidence, and emerging HR practices to improve organizational performance.

Remuneration: Refer to salary range noted on this posting, plus a comprehensive benefits package.
The compensation range for this job posting is : $193,849.08 - $256,825.75
