We are seeking an experienced oil and gas commercial lawyer to join our dynamic and collaborative team. Reporting to the Manager, Legal - Commercial Operations, the Legal Counsel’s primary role will be to provide prompt and effective legal support to internal business and service teams. You will utilize strong interpersonal, organizational and communication skills and the ability to work independently in an ever changing, team environment. The successful candidate will possess the ability to meet deadlines without sacrificing quality of service and demonstrate a strong work ethic.

- Shift schedule: 5 x 2, 8-hour shifts

Key Accountabilities Providing commercial and legal support to the following business units:
Supply Management And Commercial Contracts
- Provide legal advice over the full contract cycle including on the RFP/RFQ process and a range of legal issues arising during contract performance
- Identify risk and liability issues related to various commercial and construction matters and provide advice on risk mitigation strategies
- Provide legal advice and support for the resolution of commercial disputes
- Liaise with internal business units for delivery of commercially relevant legal advice
- Develop and implement business-oriented legal strategies to deal with client concerns
- Assist in drafting and revising contract templates, policies and procedures
Marketing
- Provide legal support to the company’s marketing business unit and assist in negotiating a range of specialized and non-specialized legal agreements
- Provide legal advice and support for commercial and regulatory matters
General Skills
- Contract and document drafting, review and analysis
- Support contracting requirements for Canadian Natural’s participation in industry consortia and joint ventures
- Assist in coordination and instruction of external counsel with clients, where required
- Prepare routine correspondence, communication and documentation on an ongoing basis
- Other ad hoc projects, as identified and required
What You Bring To The Role
- Bachelor of Law or Juris Doctor degree, with eligibility or active membership in the Law Society of Alberta
- 5+ years of relevant legal practice, ideally in corporate/commercial transactions, supply chain, construction, or oil and gas marketing; experience in intellectual property, trade law and competition law is a valued asset
- Demonstrated strength in legal drafting, contract negotiation, and clear oral communication across diverse stakeholders
- Proven ability to manage competing priorities in fast-paced environments while maintaining high standards of service and professionalism
- Comfortable working autonomously and as part of cross-functional teams, with a strong track record of building effective relationships across business units
- Known for sound decision-making, proactive problem-solving, and a high level of accountability, confidentiality, and ethical conduct
