About the role

Aspen View Public Schools, with a division office located in the town of Athabasca, is a rural school division providing diverse and innovative programming to students in a number of communities. The division is unique in that it is surrounded by a multitude of lakes, golf courses and trails that appeal to an active, outdoor lifestyle while still being in close proximity to larger urban centers.

Grassland School is a community-focused K–9 school located in the hamlet of Grassland in Athabasca County. Serving approximately 75 students, the school provides a safe, caring, and family-oriented environment where individualized support and hands-on learning help every student achieve meaningful success.

Grassland School is guided by values that emphasize collaboration, respect, citizenship, acceptance, and perseverance. Students are encouraged to develop lifelong learning skills, think creatively and critically, and feel connected to both their school community and the wider world. The school takes pride in offering an inclusive environment that reflects the strengths and character of the community it serves.

Grassland School is currently recruiting to a full-time Principal commencing with the 2026-2027 school year.

The ideal candidate will have the

following qualifications:

  • Successful teaching experience

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills

  • Appropriate administrative training

  • Strong understanding of the Leadership Quality Standard, including

    a commitment to complete the necessary training

  • Excellent planning and organizational skills

  • Committed to personal and staff professional development

  • Experience using technology to facilitate learning

  • A commitment to collaborative and data-informed decision making

  • A background of involvement in community activities

  • A commitment to promoting inclusive classroom practices

  • Foundational knowledge and skills to support First Nations, Métis

    and Inuit students and families.

  • Committed to assessment for learning and outcome based reporting

    practices

About Aspen View Public Schools

Aspen View School Division, more commonly referred to as Aspen View Public Schools or AVPS, is a regional and primarily rural school authority located north of Edmonton, Alberta. AVPS is 9,980 sq km in size.

In September 2021, there were 2,511 Kindergarten to Grade 12 students registered to attend one of AVPS’s 10 schools, four Hutterite Brethren schools, two Outreach/Off-Campus/Virtual schools and two Institutional Schools. Our division employs 364 staff; with 176.64 Full Time Equivalences (FTEs) being teachers or administrators.
