Job Description:

Position Summary:

Reporting to the Director International, the incumbent leads a cross-disciplinary team responsible for guiding international students through the study permit and PGWP process, student mobility, and integration and settlement programming. The Manager conceptualizes, implements, and evaluates programs and services to continually ensure safe arrival, growth of international exchange and mobility initiatives, and successful integration and retention of Fanshawe’s diverse international student body to the school and local community.

Working closely with the Director and Managers within International, the Academic Schools, and Student Services, the incumbent is responsible for the development and implementation of inclusive and high-quality direct student support services for all new and returning international students. This includes designing and implementing new programs and initiatives to meet the evolving needs of the international student body at Fanshawe, and to support the identification and growth of international exchange opportunities. The incumbent is responsible for the development of partnerships with other service departments and academic leaders within Fanshawe to ensure the needs of International Students are understood and met.

The incumbent gathers and analyzes intelligence on matters related to international student retention and success and makes recommendations on a wide range of issues (housing and transportation, effective cultural responsivity, internationalization approaches, study abroad safety), programming issues (Fanshawe Cares, Peer to Peer) and for planning new initiatives for student satisfaction.

The incumbent also oversees the new Welcome Center, a physical and virtual gateway for prospective students and their families. The Welcome Center team manages prospective student inquiries across channels (chat, email, phone), coordinates efficient triage of immigration-related questions to qualified specialists, and delivers high-quality campus tours. The incumbent ensures service standards, staffing, training, and workflows align with institutional priorities, providing an inclusive, responsive first point of contact that supports conversion and a smooth transition into the College community.

The incumbent is also responsible for working collaboratively with multiple external stakeholders on strategies for addressing international student satisfaction, integration, and retention to the local community and labour market.

Global Mobility & Immigration Leadership

  • Oversee safe arrivals, integration, and immigration processes.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to support orientation, accommodation, health insurance, and immigration needs.
  • Monitor and implement corrective planning based on surveys, standards, and policy changes.

Welcome Center Management

  • Direct operations of physical and virtual Welcome Centers.
  • Manage inquiries across multiple channels (chat, email, phone).
  • Implement triage protocols for immigration-related inquiries.
  • Design and deliver campus tour programs; train and schedule tour guides.
  • Develop KPIs for inquiry response, conversion, satisfaction, and accessibility.
  • Maintain knowledge bases, scripts, and training for consistent messaging.

Mobility, Exchange & Partnerships

  • Advocate for and expand student mobility and exchange programs.
  • Ensure risk management for international projects and exchanges.
  • Serve as key contact with college leadership for mobility and exchange programs.
  • Lead marketing plans and set strategic vision for international projects.
  • Establish goals, outcomes, and expectations for international initiatives.

Planning & Compliance

  • Collaborate with research, planning, and IT teams to develop solutions for international student needs.
  • Monitor evolving immigration regulations and adapt programming.
  • Analyze international student experience; recommend improvements for retention and success.
  • Work with municipal partners on integration and retention initiatives.

Internationalization Strategy

  • Contribute to global engagement framework and multi-year plans.
  • Monitor immigration trends and assess impacts on international education.
  • Identify and pursue funding opportunities for international student support.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to improve satisfaction, integration, and retention.

Administrative Leadership

  • Develop and implement annual “Fanshawe Cares” plans.
  • Monitor operating budgets and address anomalies.
  • Ensure compliance with study/work permits and visa documentation.
  • Track student outcomes and create interventions for graduation and career success.
  • Support recruitment, marketing, and brand experience plans.

Qualifications:

  • Post Secondary 4 year degree in Political Science, Internationalization, Adult Education, Educational Administration or a related discipline. Licensed as a Regulated International Student Immigration Advisor (RISIA) preferred
  • Minimum 7 years management experience in an educational institution, working in an international context, in recruitment/partnership/business development, with a proven ability to plan and achieve business goals
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
  • Knowledge of the education sector in target markets including providers, academic issues, market trends, regulatory environment and networks of contacts
  • Experience in a comparable position at an educational institution with responsibilities for a complex, high profile, and international program
  • Accomplished leader with a focus on student success and a proven ability to identify and develop international services working cohesively with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills for collaborating with staff and faculty as well as fostering student development with an ability to initiate independent collaborations with staff and faculty to enhance students’ learning experiences and sense of belonging
  • Strong understanding and awareness of intercultural frameworks and theories as it relates to working and communicating with international students, staff and faculty
  • Demonstrated problem solving and conflict resolution skills with the proven commitment to working effectively with cultural diversity issues, to put responses into context, manage outcomes, gain trust, respect and ensure acceptance
  • Excellence in organizational skills and project management through multi-tasking, effective setting of priorities
  • Extensive working knowledge and understanding of specialized international education services trends
  • Strong decision-making and problem-solving skills to maximize use of human, fiscal & material assets by enhancing services/operations and access for international learners
  • Experience with managing an interprofessional team of full-time and part-time staff/students. Proven leadership and administrative responsibility to direct teams, foster staff motivation and manage employee performance to implement operational plans
  • Proven track record in creating/implementing success strategies to build dynamic partnerships focused on student success in a changing educational environment
  • Strong leadership and credibility with capacity to lead the on-campus international teams to move departmental strategies forward and achieve desired results
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills to speak to diverse groups
  • Demonstrated interpersonal, mediation, negotiation and conflict resolution skills; proven ability to facilitate consensus building among stakeholders/key groups within the College community
  • Proficiency in research methodology, qualitative and quantitative analysis combined with computer skills to produce reports
  • Ability to work as part of a diverse and complex team
