We are seeking an experienced, hands-on Accounting Manager to join our Corporate Accounting team in Aurora. This role oversees day-to-day accounting operations across a consolidated portfolio of 100+ entities, supports financial reporting, and leads a high-performing team in a fast-paced, acquisitive environment.
The ideal candidate is a strong people leader with solid technical accounting expertise, a process-improvement mindset, and the ability to operate both strategically and tactically. This role plays a key part in ensuring accuracy and integrity of financial data across all entities, with focus on intercompany, fixed assets, and lease accounting.
Key Responsibilities General Ledger & Month-End Close Oversee daily accounting operations including GL, AP/AR, accruals, reconciliations, and month-end close Enforce close timelines and ensure accuracy and consistency across all entities Review journal entries, reconciliations, and supporting working papers Financial Reporting & Analysis Review monthly financial statements for accuracy, consistency, and variance analysis Identify reclassification needs and ensure proper presentation for leadership Support preparation of annual financial statements and ASPE-compliant disclosures Intercompany & Consolidation Ensure full reconciliation and elimination of intercompany balances across 100+ entities Review intercompany transactions for accuracy and completeness across entities Enforce reconciliation timelines and accountability Investigate and resolve discrepancies promptly, escalating when required Fixed Assets & Lease Accounting Oversee fixed asset continuity schedules, additions, disposals, transfers, and depreciation Ensure proper capitalization policies and GL alignment across entities Manage lease accounting including ROU assets and lease liabilities per standards Review lease schedules and ensure timely capture of new agreements Ensure proper elimination of intercompany asset and lease transactions Acquisition Accounting Review and validate purchase price allocation (PPA) journal entries for acquisitions Ensure accurate posting into the GL and correct period recognition Confirm proper consolidation and elimination of acquisition-related entries Tax Compliance Review Ontario HST filings and reconciliations for accuracy and timeliness Oversee indirect tax accounts and ensure monthly GL alignment Internal Controls & Audit Ensure compliance with accounting standards, policies, and internal controls Identify and address control gaps Support year-end audits and act as key contact for auditors Team Leadership Lead, mentor, and develop accounting team members Set expectations, provide coaching, and promote accountability and growth Collaborate with operations, payroll, legal, and leadership teams Process Improvement & Systems Identify opportunities for process improvement and automation Support ERP and reporting system enhancements Improve efficiency, accuracy, and scalability of accounting processes
Qualifications CPA designation required 5+ years progressive accounting experience, including leadership Strong knowledge of corporate accounting and ASPE Experience with intercompany accounting and consolidations in multi-entity environments Experience with fixed assets and lease accounting Exposure to acquisition accounting and PPA entries Experience with Ontario HST/GST compliance Advanced Excel and ERP system experience (Sage 300 or similar an asset) Strong organizational and communication skills
Preferred Experience Multi-entity or acquisitive environment experience strongly preferred M&A integration exposure an asset Industry experience in waste, environmental, or industrial services preferred Process improvement or system implementation experience Bilingual (English/French) considered an asset
