About the role

The Prince Rupert Port Authority (PRPA) is a leading industry organization dedicated to the overall planning, development, marketing, and management of the commercial port facilities within the Port of Prince Rupert.

PRPA is seeking a motivated, eager-to-learn student to join the health, safety & well-being team and contribute to ongoing projects and initiatives. This is an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience, develop professional skills, and enhance career prospects.

Summer student employment is for four months, commencing May 4, 2026, and ending August 28, 2026, unless otherwise specified.

Position Accountabilities

  • Provide administrative and project support to the health & safety function, assisting with a variety of safety initiatives and improvement projects.
  • Support the development, review, and organization of safety documentation, including procedures, programs, forms, and training materials.
  • Assist with training coordination, including tracking completion, updating records, and following up on outstanding requirements.
  • Participate in safety inspections, audits, and reviews (as appropriate), including documenting findings and tracking action items.
  • Support data collection, analysis, and reporting related to health and safety performance.
  • Assist with communication of safety information to workers and supervisors (e.g., safety bulletins, presentations, job aids).
  • Maintain accurate records and document control, ensuring information is current, consistent, and properly stored.
  • Perform other general health & safety and administrative duties as assigned.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

  • Currently enrolled in a post‑secondary program
  • Strong organizational and time‑management skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a professional environment.
  • Comfortable working with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, SharePoint).
  • Willingness to learn and apply health & safety principles, policies, and procedures.
  • Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with discretion and professionalism.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Regular working hours are Monday to Friday, 7.5 hours/day, with a 1-hour lunch break (unpaid).
  • Work will be both in the field and in an office environment.

The hourly rate for PRPA’s Summer Student position is $29.00.
