About the role

BCIT’s Campus Planning & Facilitiesdepartment is seeking a regular, full-time (1.0 FTE**) Space Planning Administrator.** Under the general direction of the Senior Development Planner, this position prepares conceptual and functional space planning proposals, assists with the Institute’s capital planning process, assists with the development and maintenance of the Campus Plan, and creates and maintains accurate and detailed electronic base plans for the Institute for use in space planning, utilization and other Institute databases requiring the use of space information. Develops space reports for analysis and decision making. Maintains and develops space standards to ensure space is utilized efficiently. Assists with the development and implementation of sustainability initiatives and updates the databases related to sustainability and greenhouse gas emissions.

Duties & Responsibilities

DUTIESANDRESPONSIBILITIES**:**

  • Maintains base plans and record drawings using AutoCAD, including architectural, structural,mechanical, electrical, and communications systems that exist within BCIT buildings.

  • Prepares conceptual and functional planning proposals for capital planning and feasibility proposals, including perspective drawings, elevations, functional base plans, etc.

  • Responds to requests in Archibus Web Central for furniture in offices, meeting rooms, learning commons and lobbies. Meets with clients to discuss requirements, drafts space plans, procures furniture and oversees installations.

  • Maintains BCIT’s inventory of surplus furniture.

  • Administers the space tracking function of the Archibus Web Central system with space management records; develops custom space reports as needed.

  • Assists with preparation of capital budgets and development of business cases for proposed projects.

  • Reviews and revises technical proposal drawings.

  • Meets with departments to compile information related to changing Institute needs; identifies potential solutions consistent with Institute standards and campus vision; achieves departmental consensus on proposal drawings.

  • Establishes proposal package outlining discussion items, desired outcomes, special considerations, etc.

  • Assists with the maintenance and development of the Campus Plan.

  • Plans for space utilization to be used in the capital planning cycle and provides preliminary space layouts for the purposes of campus planning.

  • In conjunction with the Director and Senior Development Planner, develops Institute space standards to ensure space is used efficiently.

  • Assigns room numbers and manages room numbering standards for the Institute;

  • Conducts physical space audits to ensure space inventory on campus is accurate.

  • Digitizes information related to space planning and utilization for use in timetabling.

  • Prepares reports for the Ministry on space utilization and planning as required.

  • Assists with the development and implementation of sustainability initiatives and updates databases and planning documents related to sustainability and greenhouse gas emissions.

  • Participates in Records Custodian training and remains current with record keeping practices, policies and procedures (both BCIT and FOIPOP).

  • Undertakes related duties as assigned, consistent with the job grade for this position.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS**:**

The qualifications represent the minimum qualifications required in the future (i.e. to be reflected in job postings) and do not reflect the incumbent’s existing qualifications.

Education:

  • BCIT Diploma in Architectural and Building Engineering Technology or equivalent discipline.

Experience:

  • Two years of general experience plus two years’ experience in space planning and electronic drawing conversions.
  • Working knowledge of Mechanical and Electrical systems including their representation on drawing formats.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of building codes and industry standards.

Software/Computer Application(s) and Expertise:

  • Experience using a variety of software packages with high degree of skill in the most currentversion of AutoCAD, Computer Aided Facility Management system such as Archibus WebCentral, Windows, Microsoft Excel and Word, and relational databases.

Communication/Interpersonal Skills:

  • Superb written and oral communication.
  • Must be a team player with a customer service focus.

Administrative Skills (e.g. prioritizing, minute taking, wpm speed, etc.):

  • Must be able to work independently with minimum supervision and be able to work within tight deadlines. Strong conceptual thinking and problem solving skills.

Salary Range

Salary Grade 8: $62,669 - $68,082 per annum.

Additional Salary Information

External hires are initially placed at the minimum of the salary range with set progressions to the maximum as per the Collective Agreement. Salary prorated based on percentage and term of appointment.
