Advance Wire Products Ltd. (AWP) is North America’s leading designer and manufacturer of innovative merchandising solutions for the retail grocery, convenience, and pharmacy market. We are growing and have an immediate requirement for an experienced metal machinist to join our team in Surrey.

Since 1953, AWP has partnered with clients across North America to collaboratively solve a wide range of merchandizing and display challenges. Our expertise spans wood, metal, and plastic fixture design and fabrication serving grocery, retail, pharmacy, kiosks, and beyond. From consultation, to manufacturing, to installation, AWP will make the most ambitious display ideas a reality.

Position Summary:

Reporting to the Production Manager and Metal Charge Hand, the Metal Machine Set-up Operator II is responsible for the set-up, operation, and adjustment of specialized equipment used in metal fabrication processes. This position ensures production runs meet dimensional accuracy, quality standards, and efficiency targets. The role involves diagnosing and resolving set-up and process issues, maintaining equipment readiness, and providing guidance to less experienced operators to support consistent production output.

This is a full-time, union position and the successful candidate will become a member of United Steelworkers Local 2009.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Set-up and operate specialized equipment including:

    • Shear equipment
    • CNC turret punch
    • CNC laser cutter
    • Tube cutting equipment
    • Resistance welders
    • Straight and cut wire equipment
    • Assembly operations
  • Conduct visual and dimensional inspections to ensure quality standards are maintained.

  • Resolve set-up problems with assistance from the Set-up Operator I as necessary.

  • Train new or less experienced employees on set-up and operation of equipment or processes in this class as required.

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Minimum 3–5 years of experience in metal fabrication or machining

  • Strong mechanical aptitude with proven ability to work with CNC and manual equipment

  • Ability to read and interpret shop drawings, blueprints, and process instructions

  • Proficiency with precision measurement tools and inspection methods

  • High attention to detail and commitment to producing quality products

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods during shifts.

  • Regular lifting, pushing, and pulling of materials and parts up to 50 lbs.

  • Consistent use of personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety glasses, steel-toe footwear, hearing protection, and gloves as required

  • Dependable and punctual with a strong sense of responsibility for work quality and deadlines

  • Commitment to workplace safety and adherence to established procedures
