Responsibilities
Directs the work of staff on assigned shifts engaged in the repair and maintenance of fleet buses and non-revenue vehicles. Ensures that safe and compliant work practices are maintained. Organizes and schedules planned and unplanned work to be performed. Participates in the development, usage and ongoing accuracy of the shop work plan and how it relates to all maintenance activities in the shop. Ensures sufficient staff are available to cover regular and emergency maintenance and repair situations. Assigns vehicles to scheduled and non-scheduled runs according to operational and maintenance requirements. Responds to road calls from Transit Communications reporting vehicle break-downs by dispatching appropriate staff. Ensures equipment, labour and replacement parts are available. Monitors quality and time spent on work performed to ensure meeting CMBC standards. Completes and checks all department forms and processes including charge numbers and warranty, deficiency, and work order documentation. Attends various committees and other meetings including safety or technical issues, providing input with respect to various maintenance issues. Liaises with security as required to ensure fleet vehicles, garage facilities and other buildings are protected from acts of theft and vandalism.
ILLUSTRATIVE EXAMPLES OF ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Directs the work of staff on assigned shifts engaged in the repair and maintenance of fleet buses and non-revenue vehicles, with responsibility for ensuring staff are properly trained, motivated and performing to standards to adequately meet production requirements. This will be achieved by managing the performance of employees, including mentoring, corrective coaching, conducting informal attendance management reviews and discipline of employees, while having a regular shop floor presence.
Ensures that safe and compliant work practices are maintained, and that staff are adequately trained on appropriate regulations, legislation, policies, procedures etc.
Organizes and schedules planned and unplanned work to be performed, including deficiency list, preventive maintenance, inspections, inframe engine repairs, component rebuild, replacement and repair, major repair work, running repairs, refuelling, cleaning, washing, dusting, and flushing to ensure maximum vehicle availability in a safe, clean and roadworthy condition to meet fleet service requirements. Adjusts work priorities to meet unforeseen circumstances; monitors work in progress and inspects completed work to ensure CMBC repair standards are maintained. Verifies and organizes incomplete work and communicates requirements and problems to the Maintenance Planner, Manager, and/or next Shift Supervisor, as required. Leads discussions with crews to review Technical Instruction Letters (TIL’s) or any other documents conducive to the business, records attendance and distributes lists as required.
Participates with the Maintenance Planner and Manager in the development, usage and ongoing accuracy of the shop work plan and how it relates to all maintenance activities in the shop.
Ensures sufficient staff are available to cover regular and emergency maintenance and repair situations; monitors work in progress and takes necessary action to have yard, shop and on-road problems attended to, such as accidents, spills, vehicle breakdowns, snow removal, downed trolley wires, etc.
Assigns vehicles to scheduled and non-scheduled runs according to operational and maintenance requirements; arranges parking by vehicle and lane number to ensure efficient operational output. Performs book-out when necessary. Liaises with Operations and depot staff to coordinate dispatching of vehicles when runs are disrupted due to unforeseen circumstances. When necessary, deals with outside vendors, such as tool suppliers, parts suppliers, dealership, towing companies, emergency service providers, as well as Translink.
Responds to road calls from Transit Communications reporting vehicle break-downs by dispatching appropriate staff to perform roadside repairs, or to have the vehicle towed or returned to the shop for repairs. Dispatches replacement buses and other resources as required.
Ensures equipment, labour and replacement parts are available prior to scheduling work and records-associated information for inventory control purposes.
Monitors quality and time spent on work performed to ensure meeting CMBC repair, inspection, Quality Assurance, and servicing standards including data collection and all required documentation.
Completes and checks all department forms and processes including charge numbers and warranty, deficiency, and work order documentation. Prepares Shop Repair Orders, Daily Inspection Sheets, Road Call Sheets, Daily Vehicle Service Reports and other repair and
maintenance reports as required. Enters CVIP inspection reports into the system. Opens and closes work orders; provides information on mounted and dismounted serialized parts. Runs and analyzes the necessary maintenance related reports to minimize repetitive repairs and ensures proper repairs are performed. Checks time sheets for accuracy and completeness and approves.
Attends various committees and other meetings relating to matters including safety or technical issues; provides input with respect to various maintenance issues. Liaises with security as required to ensure fleet vehicles, garage facilities and other buildings are protected from acts of theft and vandalism. Provides information and written reports as required.
Qualifications
EDUCATION:
Grade 12 graduation plus successful completion of a recognized apprenticeship, diploma or equivalent program in maintenance or management of commercial vehicles: courses in supervision, diagnostic and office software.
Successful completion of the Commercial Vehicle Inspector examination (CVIP) course or possession of the CVIP inspector’s license is required.
EXPERIENCE:
Requires three (3) years’ experience working in a fleet environment to gain all aspects of the maintenance, repair, and service requirements.
A further period of six (6) months in the position is required to become familiar with the administrative responsibilities, CMBC organization, policies, procedures, and supervisory responsibilities.

Recruitment Process: An applicant will be required to demonstrate their suitability for this position by meeting the minimum level of qualifications and experience in order to be invited into the selection process. A standard interview format will be used including general, scenario and behavioural descriptive interview questions.

Rate of Pay
Salary: $117,523 - $141,594 per annum (Actual salary offered will be commensurate with education, experience and internal parity).
