Maintenance General Support Worker

Required for St. Paul Education
St. Paul Education requires a full-time permanent Maintenance General Support Worker commencing August 17, 2026.
Reporting to the Maintenance Supervisor and based out of the Maintenance Shop and warehouse in St. Paul Alberta, this position provides general support to the St Paul School Division Facilities Maintenance Department through custodial, maintenance, warehouse, and assistance to grounds operations. The position requires strong organizational skills, safe work practices, adaptability, and the ability to operate or learn to operate equipment such as forklifts, skid steers, and lawn maintenance equipment. Regular travel to schools and division facilities is required for deliveries, pickups, training, and maintenance support. The Director of Facilities or designate may also provide direction.
Responsibilities include inventory and supply management, school deliveries, equipment operation, and assisting with custodial and maintenance services to ensure safe, clean, and well-maintained learning environments. The position requires strong organizational skills, safe work practices, adaptability, and the ability to operate or learn to operate equipment such as forklifts, skid steers, and lawn maintenance equipment.
Key Responsibilities
Custodial Supplies and Warehouse Support
Maintain custodial supply inventory at the maintenance warehouse. Monitor stock levels and assist with ordering custodial supplies, materials, and equipment. Receive, organize, store, and distribute custodial supplies. Prepare and deliver custodial supply orders to schools and division facilities. Pick up supplies, equipment, and materials as required. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe warehouse area. Assist with tracking supply usage and identifying ordering needs. Support consistency in custodial products, equipment, and supply standards across schools. Maintain vehicles, equipment, tools, work areas, and assigned school spaces in a safe, clean, and organized condition.
Custodial Staff Support
Support current custodial staff with proper use of supplies, equipment, and cleaning procedures. Help create, update, and maintain a custodial training program. Provide practical support to schools regarding custodial best practices. Assist with onboarding custodial staff and training in areas such as cleaning standards, equipment use, chemical safety, and supply procedures. Promote safe and consistent custodial practices throughout the division.
Facilities Maintenance Support
Provide general maintenance assistance at schools and division facilities. Complete basic non-ticketed maintenance and handyman tasks as assigned. Assist with furniture assembly, moving, setup, repairs, painting, filter changes, minor hardware repairs, and other general maintenance duties. Assist with snow removal, grounds support, and other operational needs when required. Follow all safety procedures, regulations, and division expectations. Perform other related duties as assigned by the Maintenance Supervisor, Director of Facilities, or designate.
The duties listed above are intended to describe the general nature of the position. The work of the Facilities Maintenance Department is varied and may change based on division needs. The successful candidate may be assigned other related duties that support safe, clean, and well-maintained schools and facilities.
Required Qualifications
The successful candidate will have a high school diploma or equivalent, a valid Class 5 Driver's License, and a clean driver's abstract. They will have experience in general or facility maintenance, basic knowledge of tools and repair techniques, and the ability to safely operate division vehicles. Strong communication, organizational, and time management skills are required, along with the ability to work independently and as part of a team, prioritize tasks, adapt to changing demands, and follow instructions and safety procedures.
Preferred Qualifications And Assets
Basic computer and inventory tracking skills. Experience in custodial work, warehouse work, facility maintenance, or school operations. Forklift, skid steer, yard grounds keeping equipment experience or certification. Mechanically inclined.
